Hiiii I have been fortunate to be accepted to both incarnate word and Sam Houston’s osteopathic medical schools. I’m so grateful to be a future doctor! Honestly I am pretty sad however after todays TMDSAS match (I am a Texas resident). I ranked SHSU 3rd with two MD schools ranked first and second and matched at SHSU. I’m also on the waitlist for an OOS MD school.
All of that to say, I was hoping for an MD match and bc I didn’t get one I’m getting more serious about choosing between my two A’s in case I don’t get in off the 3 waitlists I’m on.
So, pros and cons:
UIW Pros:
- love San Antonio
- got good vibes from interview
Cons
- huge in person component
- dress code
- I don’t know if the curriculum will be good for me. I want lectures and I want them recorded. I don’t think the huge dependence on learning by discussion/problem solving will be the best environment for me
SHSU pros:
- I have a few friends in Houston
Cons
- don’t want to have to move again 3rd year for clerkships
- I left my interview being like “I didn’t like this school”
- newer than UIW
- student resources seem lacking
- kind of in the middle of nowhere
I understand how privileged I am to even have to make a decision between two schools! But not particularly excited about either one. Looking mostly for feedback on if there is a clear consensus on which is the better school.
