PLEASE HELP!

UIWSOM
Pros:
- In TX and I would love to stay in TX
- Classes only from 8am-12pm
- P/F
- On-site clinic you can volunteer in the first year

Cons:
- more expensive (92k a year)
- Exam styles are FRQ (but this is changing to more MC??)

ARCOM
Pros:
- Cheaper tuition ( around 86k total loans a year)
- Nicer facility
- on-campus housing
- Staff seemed nice

Cons:
- out of state
- lower COMLEX scores
- letter-graded

Good luck with your decision, be very careful to see how many days UIWSOM gives you to make your choice.
The AACOM traffic rules after May 1 are as stated:
After May 1, AACOMAS reports to each institution the names and candidates for its entering class who hold an acceptance(s) at additional institutions.
An osteopathic medical college may rescind an offer of admissions to a candidate who has paid deposits to or holds positions at multiple institutions.
-If the osteopathic medical college chooses to withdraw the candidate from the entering class, the college must give the candidate notice in writing.
-If the candidate does not respond and is withdrawn from a college, the deposit is forfeited, and the seat may be given to another candidate.

In other words, both schools can now see that you hold 2 spots and one or the other of them may notify you to choose one quickly

And here I thought the DO admissions process couldn’t get any more predatory with their ridiculous, early deposits lol

??? They have to lock down their class sometime before orientation day.
There’s still a lot to do with students who commit like financial aid, background checks, and more

So why not institute a commit to enroll deadline like AMCAS where you officially select one school on AACOMAS? It seemed extremely easy on the MD end. Is this their attempt? By instituting a punishment for not doing it? Their deposits that "count towards tuition if you enroll" halfway through the admissions cycle (Dec/Jan) are already ridiculous. Now they are encouraging schools to rescind offers to students who already paid deposits?

Locking down a class is a challenge for every medical school because students will remain on waitlists for better schools until orientation day. This is not unique to DO schools. What is unique to DO schools are these ridiculous rules, fees, and expectations.

Edit: I’m an MD, but I remember applying to DO schools and the process being much more frustrating than the MD route.

OP: if you prefer to stay in TX, go for UIW. There is no meaningful difference in prestige or cost between these two schools, so you should choose your support system.

@m1redsox I'm sorry you seem to be having a frustrating application cycle. It takes its toll.
But this thread is for @bloop808 to get some answers for their decision so I'll ask to keep it on topic.
