Hello all:

I have been accepted to a few places, and am considering attending UMDNJ.

Rather than try to start a thread asking people which of the schools i should go to, I was hoping people could comment on the strengths of umdnj.

Also, please reference whether you have first hand account of any knowledge of umdnj, or if this is something you heard through the grapevine.

To be honest, coming from NYC, I had a rather low impression of umdnj. But when i interviewed there, I was quite impressed with the caliber of students and the strength of the clinical experience there.

Can someone please tell me what they think of umdnj from personal experience? Dr. Linfante has explicitly stated that 100% of students either matched or specialized, with a high percentage obtaining their first choice. Any current students know if that is true? Additionally, i was wondering if there were still fall out when umdnj was on probation.

I like umdnj because it's quite cheap (i'll change my residency to nj), it has a small class size than some other schools, and even though i live in manhattan it is actually very easy for me to commute there daily by PATH train (no driving, no tolls). The thing i don't like about umdnj is the location. But other than that, I'd love to hear any other likes and dislikes.

Bro you can't commute from Manhattan to NJ everyday, for all the tolls, gas, and time you'd be wasting you might as well dorm.

Anyhow I really liked UMDNJ and it was definitely my second choice. The clinics were really nice, had really nice lighting and very clean. Also, I heard their clinical requirements are very very strong and I believe they start seeing patients at the end of D1.

The only bad thing I can think of is the driveby neighborhood and the runned down simlabs. other than that its good to go.

umdnj is in newark, which has its bad areas, but it has improved by leaps and bounds from just a few years ago. just like any city, you should naturally watch your back if walking around at night.
it is VERY strong clinically. they have higher clinical reqs than a good # of other schools, and newark provides an awesome patient pool. students on tour told us a bunch of D4's finish almost a semester early because they are booked constantly (a good thing!), leaving time for externships etc. ive shadowed umdnj and other grads, and the dentists themselves say umdnj is definitely really good clinically.
judging by what dr. linfante said, it looks like they prepare them well for the boards also.
