Hi everyone:
I just received the letter for an interview at UMDNJ on Jan 18th. I appreciate those of you who already interview in the first round to give me some feedback about the format of the interview and any general information that can be helpful.
Thank you very much!
I cannot say enough about how nice the faculty were during the interview process. They are genuine in their enthusiasm about the program and in their dedication to the success of the students. The interview was very relaxed and they wanted to get to know the real you relative to to your application packet.
My interviewer had obviously read over my app very thoroughly as she even commented on my personal statement. My interview went VERY well and there was no stress of any kind.
The most important thing that I learned during the process is that
I believe they want a vibrant, lively student population full or real people, not robots. The enthusiasm of the faculty in contagious, and
I believe that if they feel your genuine enthusiasm for dentistry and patient care, you will have a great shot at acceptance. A super high DAT and GPA are not the ticket here IMHO, but selling yourself as someone whose ultimate goal is to make a contribution to the profession of dentistry is the golden ticket. It is also important to know that many of the faculty members graduated from UMDNJ, so their enthusiasm is 100% real. Don't try too hard be someone you are not to sell yourself, they will certainly see right through it. Just be yourself and do your best.
Another thing to remember is that they choose their students
on the same day as the interview!! Therefore, if you have an interview, an acceptance is basically up to you.
I was accepted on Nov 30th and I can't wait to attend. Good Luck!!
