hey guys!
I'm in my first year at UMDNJ-SOM and loving it so far!
As for residency, yes you can become an instate resident right away.
I am originally from chicago, and had no problem doing it.
Once you get here, you need to fill out an application with the school to switch your residency over...but before you do this, you need to do a few things. First, get a NJ license. Second, if your car is in your name, you would need to switch the registration and insurance over to NJ. Third, you need to show the office a long-term lease (at least one year).
If your car is under your parents name, that's fine, but you still need to show them the registration so that they know the car you are driving is actually someone else's.
once you submit all that it shouldn't take too long. I think they reclassified me within 2 weeks of submitting it, and by the end of our first week here.
Hope this helped 🙂
Good luck everyone, and hopefully I'll see you here next year!
