For all you that attend UMDNJ-SOM, what's the chances of getting off the wait-lsit?

In the past few years, pretty slim unless you're in the top 5 or so bc the #s on the wait list have been getting bigger. However, the past couple of years, there's been at least 1 person who was called either right before Orientation Week or on the 1st morning of. Good luck, UMDNJ-SOM Class of 2009

so the waitlist only moves about 5?

So - question especially for current students, but those who've interviewed can chime in too, I guess.

What is great about this school? (aside from tuition)

Yes tuition is wonderful, but the school's even better. I'm a third year and consider choosing this school one of the best decisions I have even made. Contrary to popular belief, the school is not going to close down or go bankrupt first off. Next, we just passed the COCA inspection and received 3 commendations. Our last set of board scores for graduating students put our school average at 20 points above national average, so very strong academic program.
Mostly, the students here are happy. Personally, medical school is very rough- its stressful. Our classes are able to deal with that stress and still enjoy ourselves. Of course its going to be challenging- its med school, but to find out that the students are actually enjoying their 4 years here is HUGE! THe school trully puts an effort into making sure you will be the best physician you can possibly be through education and providing opportunities for you to have personal growth in areas that you decide. Like anything else, you will get out what you put in and strive for. There are tons of clubs to join- anything from professional associations to the golf club. Also, academic affairs office is very helpful with tutoring whenever requested and seminars on preparing for boards and also group reviews for exams. Personally, I have done exceptionally well on the boards as well as clinical rotations and preclinical courses, and can probably pick any residency, DO or MD that I want to go to (interested in EM), but I really want to stay at this school becuase I have had such a great experience here. Honestly, I could make this post be 12 pages long with praise about the school, but ask questions and I'm sure one of us UMDNJers will answer them honestly.

I called UMDNJ-SOM admissions to see if my app was complete, but the admissions lady said they will call back, will they calling me back just to let me know that I am complete, I mean isn't in their computer system if someone is complete, why would they call back just to let me know my app status or will they call back maybe offering me an interview?

haha oh i liked the school. just kinda bummed to know the waitlist moves only about 5 spots. 👎

I'm at the school now, and the wait list moves more than 5 slots. I believe in our class there were at least 15 people in the class of 100 who were wait listed- so figure probably double or triple that were offered slots but already got accepted elsewhere, etc. Paula is wonderful and if you call her and ask her for your spot on the wait list, she might be able to tell you more info about where you are (ie one of the next to be accepted, etc). The school has a rolling admission and uses the composite score as a minimum to accept students. Throughout the year, the composite score can adjust up or down so that you might be accepted sooner than you think, especially if you are close to the top of the list. Also, if you get more grades that are beneficial to you (ie your first semester grades) send them in becuase admissions will readjust their scores according to what you send them.

Has anyone received an acceptance in the form of a phone call from the committee today? I am getting nervous b/c I haven't received one yet and they are suppose to be meeting today.

Yeah same here, it's 5:16 and no phone call here.....
Anyone?????

i didn;t get my call until like 630 that night- the meeting for admissions just ended around 415.....dont be nervous, also, I found out that of the people that interview, roughly 80% end up being offered a seat in the class- I'm sure you're fine, good luck!

When did you interview?

I'm a third year student, so a few years ago but I can tell you that they still do call, but the meeting got out late yesterday so i don't know if they'd call you. If you're nervous give Paula a call on Monday morning and tell her that you interviewed, you really liked the school and just wanted to verify if the committee met yesterday (you know they did but saying that sounds better than did i get in)

what is the tuition?

Tuition is something like 20K.
On a side note I just called the admission's office. The committee did meet Friday and they have the results. The person I spoke with said that the applicants will be notified toward the end of this week. Hope this helps.
