I was just wondering what's the rep of umdnj---newark and piscataway; i've heard some talk on here about cooper (camden) but nobody has mentioned the other two. it's hard to find out what programs are the more respected ones in the psyc world if you're not in the psyc world yet. Everyone knows the big ones in nyc like columbia, cornell, mt sinai, bellevue but what about st luke's, st vincents, beth israel, metropolitan. i mean how do ppl in the know view these programs. i'm thinking i might just ask my own psychiatrist what he thinks if i don't get any leads here. i just would like to know that after 4 yrs at a program and when i say i trained at 'ny/nj hospital' that ppl will know i got some kick arse training. then again i'll prolly be scramblin' and not eggs
thanx!
scutwork doesn't have that many psyc reviews

UMDNJ-Newark: the highlights here for me were meeting Dr. Fadem, nice facility, ECT, research, and accesibility. The downsides include the 1-2 interviewers, poor support staff, and evasive residents. I interviewed here with an AMG and we asked to see Pgy 2, 3 at lunch. The PGY-4s promised to let us meet some but when we rounded the inpatient units they just pointed out the other residents and hurried us through the process. On a funny note, I thought it was amusing to see the residency coordinator and office secretaries walking around in crisp, long white coats with UMDNJ- Dept. of Psychiatry logos while the real MDs wear shirt, tie, and dress pants. The program's secretary was very nice and i thought it was strange when we had to wait 1 hour at the end of the day to meet with him so he can go over the terms of the program contract. Overall, it's not a bad program but this is not a program where I can excel at.

thank you!
