UMiami match list

I'm currently finalizing my school list and was looking at the match list for UMiami. Despite being ranked only 50 or so, their match list seems insanely good (edit: yes 50 is good, it's just something I would have expected from 30+!). There is a lot of matching into competitive specialties like derm and ortho, and at big-name places at that. Is UMiami just seen as having good training by program directors, or do they have a good reputation despite their ranking? Thank you so much!

FWIW Miami is on par with Einstein (USNWR 39) by residency program director ranking. It's a great school. Interpreting match lists is tricky business though and you don't want to over-interpret anything. There are people matching ortho/derm etc. at nearly every school.

Miami Student here - Our students get to train at Jackson memorial, I gigantic country hospital where students get an unusually high degree of autonomy combined with exposure to some very rare pathology (crazy traumas, tropical diseases from the Caribbean, extremely advanced presentations of treatable conditions in people coming here from other countries). This makes for very well trained students by the end of med school.

Also we have very robust mentoring programs for Derm, Ortho, Plastics, ENT, and neurosurg. The mentors have you under their wing from day one, and basically help you build a hyper-competitive app from the ground up starting 1st semester of M1.

Thanks for the shout-out 🙂. Most lay-people have no idea Miami Med is a good program. They hear UM and think of that party school down in Miami that was good at at football once.
