I am looking around at building a bigger list of schools I'd want to apply to because right now the only thing on my list is University of Kansas. I was looking at UMKC and looked at the prerequisites... am I right in reading that they only require 31 hours of prereq's? They only have listed:

English comp 1 & 2 : 6 hours
Social sciences : 3 hours
Chem 1 & 2 plus labs : 8 hours
Calculus : 4 hours
General Bio 1 & 2 : 6 hours
Physics plus lab : 4 hours

With a GPA overall of 2.75 and science/math of 2.5?!

This can't be right can it? Most schools I've looked at have requirements of like 68 hours and GPA of 3.0 with common acceptance at 3.5.

Anyone applying to this school? Is it easy to get into and why are the listed requirements so "small"? I'm confused I guess. 😕

UMKC is a six year school if I'm not mistaken

Yea, you're reading it right. They only require 31 hours of prereqs because they only require 1 year of prereqs and they are a 0-5 school, which is special, but whatever. I'm pretty sure they require the PCAT also. And they are not easy to get into, because the 2.75 gpa requirements is the BARE MINIMUM.

Previous posters are correct - 5 year program. I don't know about ease or difficulty of acceptance, but be aware that it is a state school (Missouri), so out of state applicants may have a slightly tougher time gaining acceptance.

this is how i see it: sure im seeing it in a cynical way, but requirements are kept low to attract more applicants ($$), and everyone will still compete for the spots b/c u know that smart ppl as well as not so smart ppl will apply.

Yeah as said earlier, UMKC is a 1+5 program. Here are some other stats that teh advisor gives you.

ü Average GPA to get admitted is 3.5 - 3.6
ü Scientific and Math GPA will also be determined
ü PCAT be in the 60-75 %tile in each category (will mix and match)
ü Leadership
ü 230 interviewees selected – early March – letter sent out
ü Interviews will be held in late march / early April
ü Decision letters in mid-April

I'm currently enrolled as a second year pharmacy student in the UMKC satellite program in Columbia, MO. I know that 2 years ago when I applied, we were given stats that said over 700 applicants applied. Out of those ~230-240 were selected for interviews. Then out of those 28 are accepted for the satellite program and I think about 96 or 98 are accepted for the Kansas City campus.

Wow, looks then like they are trying to attract more people. Still a good option to keep on my list since I am fairly close to there. Thanks for the info everyone!
