PLEASE. HELP. ME. I love both.

UNC:

Pros:
- close to home (NC resident), good support system
- full tuition!!
- #1 in primary care, good reputation
- better city- good weather, great campus - did my undergrad here, know my way around
-Spanish program that I can do throughout my time there - talked with many med students and they love it and feel it has given them the fluency they want to confidently work with Spanish speaking patients - something I really want to do

Cons:
-lower Step 1 score? (asked an M1 about this, she said it was due to the change in curriculum 4 yrs ago. since then they have made changes to fix this: buy uworls and USMLErx for every class, all final exams are NBME, hired "study coaches"...and scores have risen
-interview day and second look day were short - I felt I didn't get a good look and feel of everything UNC has to offer
-most people live off campus and have to take the bus system in (reportedly reliable tho)
-tearing down lecture and anatomy hall this summer - unsure where they will put us?
- didn't talk to as many students, although did really click with a few people. but unsure of the vibe here

Ohio:
Pros:
-BEAUTIFUL hospitals - 7 hospitals right on campus. amazing
-big patient simulation center. loved on 2nd look day they showed us how to intubate, etc. (i believe UNC has this too, they just didn't show us)
-wonderful community and friendly feel - everyone here was soo nice
-higher avg step score (235)
-awesome campus in general - huge rec center, lots of different resources

Cons:
-only have 50% of in-state tuition (in state= ~32k). I am out of state so the first year I will still owe a lot until I became a Ohio resident for the following years.
-far from family and support system
-****ty weather, didn't love the city of Columbus
-lower rankings than UNC? tbh, I don't understand these rankings or know if they matter

WHAT DO I DO?!?!? Objectively, what is the better school? For the longest time I wanted UNC. Ohio was completely random but I was really impressed by their program and the people there were so nice. But, it is hard to pass up a full ride from a good school. I don't really know what specialty I want to go into or where I want to end up.

Thanks 🙂

I would say that they are both similar in reputation and will not close any doors for you, which means take the cheaper and more geographically appealing option, UNC!
