I don’t really read the non-EM forums here, so this may have been discussed elsewhere, but recently UNC Health and CMC in Charlotte announced a “merger”. The logistics of a State organization (UNC) combining with a County organization (CMC) are not clear nor is how this new mega-conglomerate will affect health care and/or competition in NC.

Well, CMC's academic affiliation is with UNC, so it's not completely foreign.

There is a satellite medical school there, but I believe the GME is independent.

They need an academic affiliation. According to ACGME, that is UNC-CH. They are "independent", in that they do their own GME, but that is the med school affiliation.
