UNC In the Area Email

I'll be visiting family in western NC in about a month. I was wondering if anyone has heard of UNC being receptive to in area emails? I don't have an II currently, so I am worried they will take it negatively. UNC is one of my top choices, so I don't want it to hurt my application. Thanks!

Let me know if it works, I go down to Raleigh all the time to visit and I applied to UNC.

They said no over the phone
