unc interview oct 15th

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The social is the evening before the interviews.

"You are also invited to a social given by our dental students. This will take place in the lobby of Tarrson Hall on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm. This is not mandatory and will only be dental students, applicants, and family members (no faculty or staff will be attending)."

I'll be there at the social as well as the next day for the interview. Its a chance to meet and speak to the current students. But it is not mandatory, as stated in the email.

Just don't go kissing a student host.

So I just interviewed yesterday and I attended the social on Friday evening. To answer your question, attendance is not taken but I'd highly recommend going if at all possible. This is an excellent opportunity to get a feel for the school and interview atmosphere. By the way, it was an awesome experience and I was really impressed with everything. It's an awesome school and the students and staff are very welcoming. Best of luck....

Congrats! Sounds like a great experience! I went there for their "Impressions" program. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the people!

thanks for the responses. I am now definitely going to attend.

I feel that many instate students have not been given interviews by UNC. Is this the case? If so, why?

Definitely attend the interview, but by no means is the "social" necessary. I had my interview this week, and while the interview process was very well organized and professional, the social was merely that, a highly informal, relaxed "social." You walk in and just talk to current students and the other applicants. By no means would I skip anything important to me to attend the social portion. However, the interview is bright and early, so don't be late.

UNC typically interviews mostly out-of-state applicants the first couple of dates, then the latter two dates are mostly in-state applicants. The social the night before is a good time to meet dental students, typically first and second years, and ask any questions about the interviewing process.
It was nice meeting some of you Friday and Saturday, and I wish you all the best this cycle.
