The form is to verify the resident status. You don't automatically qualify as a in-state resident just because you put it on your AADSAS. The difference in cost of attendance of in-state vs out-of-state is quite large and UNC takes in a certain number of IS/OOS applicants each year, therefore it would behoove both UNC and the applicant to make sure that the applicants resident status is correct.
