Hi y'all,

I'm very grateful to have these two options, but I've been torn and struggling to decide between them. I would love for any insights/opinions anyone can provide! I'm FGLI, URM from Ohio, and I am very interested in ENT as well as Latinx and underserved care.

UNC SOM (~145K COA)

Pros:

-
Received a merit scholarship for full tuition as an OOS student

-Second look made it feel very collaborative and supportive

-Deep focus on underserved care, especially for Latino populations in NC

-CAMPOS program

-Strong match outcomes

-Social life would likely be more vibrant

-Strong research (but not as strong as CWRU from what I gather)

-Plenty of college sports and events on campus

-1.5 yr preclinical

-Stronger school culture

Cons:

-farther from home (I'm okay with it, however, as my family is still incredibly supportive of UNC if I choose to go there)

-Mandatory attendance (manageable)

-Matches tend to stay in Southeast

-not pass/fail

-Moved to another campus after 2nd year, a bit cautious of that despite people saying they usually get 1st choice

CWRU SOM (190K COA)

Pros:

-Significant need-based financial aid scholarship

-Major research powerhouse

-Strong emphasis on publications (important for ENT)

-Excellent match outcomes at top academic programs (I'd prefer to be in Midwest or the Northeast)

-Especially helpful for competitive surgical subspecialties

-~2.5 hours from family

-I have research connections there from a previous summer internship at CWRU

-Plenty of professional sports

-Pass/Fail

Cons

-"optional attendance," but looking deeper, there are mandatory 8-10 AM sessions throughout the week, just like UNC

- More expensive

-Some of the students I spoke to seemed "meh" in terms of living in Cleveland/being at Case

-Felt less social at second look

-2 yr preclinical

I could see myself being happy at both, and the advice I've gotten already is that I can make it where I like at either school, but I am still very indecisive.
