Has anyone who went into radiology had a dislike for dark rooms as a medical student? I'm curious to know if this is pretty common at the outset, just like seeing that dead body on your first day of anatomy and later not being bothered by it.

The dark room is the best place in the hospital outside of the IR suite. 👍

What don't you like about it?

Don't know if this is what you mean, but being in a dark room used to make me sleepy. Of course, not being able to do anything as a student on a radiology rotation probably had something to do with it. Once I was in residency, it never bothered me again.

i find it's kind of like being at the bar without the loud music

I feel like it's bad for the eyes, staring at bright screens with darkness all around. Do you have to sit in there for hours on end for the rest of your career? Can't this be done in a dimly lit office, and are all dark rooms pitch black?

For me it's fear of eye strain + missing the usual ambient light during the daytime I've grown so accustom to.

Plenty of radiologists work in dimly lit offices, just depends on preference. I actually like the darker rooms.

The dark is actually to hide the money from the surgeons😉

How do you hide $ from an orthopod?

Tape it to the patient's chest.

How do you hide $ from an internist?

Put it under a dressing.

How do you hide $ from a neurosurgeon?

Tape it to his children.

How do you hide $ from a general surgeon?

Put it in the chart.

How do you hide $ from an anesthesiologist?

Don't wake him up.

How do you hide $ from a radiologist?

Tape it to the patient's forehead.

How do you hide $ from a pediatrician?

Trick question, they have no $ to find.

How do you hide $ from a plastic surgeon?

You can't.
