This post it to help those who have not scored above a 17 in the AA and/or PAT. I am posting this on behalf of a friend of mine who score a 15 and 16 respectively on his DAT. I don't have the details as to whether he is going to take it again or not. I would assume he is but I am not sure. He would have posted himself but he is still waiting on his membership to this forum to be activated.

Those who have scored in this range:

Have you received interviews, been accepted in previous years, know of others who have, etc. I am sure there is more than a couple who could benefit from this.

Personally I know of someone who was accepted with 16's. He took the DAT four times and 16 was his best score. He applied twice as well and was accepted the second time.

And no it is not me. I am going to take it in the next week. Thanks on his behalf.😛

The best advice to gove your friend is to retake the test. With a 15/16 I am not too sure any school will except him unless he has over a 3.7 GPA. One of my friends from t he University of Houston applied to 7 schools. he had a 3.6 GPA and a 16/16 DAT and not one of them accepted him. (I think only three or four gave him an interview). My advice to your friend would be to retake the DAT and reapply for 2005.

--That's just my opinion, I could be wrong

I agree Croco. My friend is on this site often and can read it for himself. I told him the same thing.

Not taking it again can and most likely will run you the risk of not being accepted. Taking it again may still allow you to be accepted this year if the scores are good enough. Getting accepted one year earlier is well worth studying and taking it again.

Tell your friend this. I would recommend him skipping one year and applying for 2005. This way he can take more science classes related to the DAT (advanced bio, etc...) , as well as have a whole year to retake the DAT. This way he can probably score perhaps a 18-21 and raise his chances of being accepted. I would not recommend him retaking in the near future because there is only so much you can improve with the little time left that there is to prepare. Keep this in mind, if you does not do well this time on the test, then his chances of getting into dental school can become postponed "indefinitely"🙁

For all of you who have scored a 17 academic, I would strongly advise you to retake the DAT. Most schools averages are hitting 19's now and I expect that in this year the average will hit 20.

If you did get a 17, write to the schools and illustrate your enthusiasm for their program and then tell them that you want to retake the DAT. Some schools will appreciate your honesty and aggressivness and grant you an interview anyways.
