Undergrad abroad?

Is it alright if I go to a University abroad for my undergraduate education (University of London or something) and then come back here for medical school? Can I do BOTH abroad and then come back? Or is this a bad idea if I want to practice medicine over here in the U.S?

Is it a better idea to just go to a university here and then do one year in a another country? Will it help me during med school admissions?

Thoughts?

Why are you so concerned about "Helping in admissions". Just go through college like everyone else and do what you enjoy. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR THREADS DEALS WITH EITHER MONEY OR WITH THE EASY WAY INTO MED SCHOOL.

Actually, I think studying abroad might do you some good if you take classes that matter. I've been doing some research into this myself (I too am very interested in taking a semester to study in Spain), and there are some programs for pre-health professions where you can take health-related courses in another country. For example, I believe Denmark offers a program which includes courses about HIV/AIDS in Western Europe, etc. Spain also offers a pre-med program - that way, I can learn about healthcare and Spanish conversational/medical terms 😀

Something that shows med schools that you are keenly interested in health and the public welfare of others.

If you want to attend medical school in the US, you need to attend college in the US or Canada.

If you want to study in another country, I suggest studying abroad for a semester in college.

Mods, any chance we could get a sticky regarding what matters/doesn't matter to med school adcoms? I would be happy to help out.

Undergraduate institution does matter, as does ethnicity. Although perhaps these aren't as important as the other factors you listed, to say that they don't matter at all is simply not true.
