Hiya folks!

I am planning to quit my job in order to finish my undergrad degree next fall. This part-time school thing is just taking too long.

My question: What do undergrad students do about health insurance? I currently have benefits from my employer... but obvious when I quit those will go away.

Is there some company that sells low-cost health insurance for students?

Thanks,
Jo

I'm usingt term major medical. Look into Fortis. They are costing me $110/month for the whole family. An individual is less than half that. Again, this is for major medical. The deduct. is $2500. For a $250 deduct (real ins) the price doubles.

Most schools will require all full-time students to have some sort of health insurance. They will usually offer a major medical plan (similar to what thackl posted) although the cost is certainly variable. Bigger colleges and universities are likely to have a low-cost health center for students to use for basic primary care stuff.

Many undergraduate students are, of course, young and therefore probably qualify under their parent's insurance. Typically these programs will cover any full-time students under age 25 so check with your parents and their insurance may offer better/cheaper insurance if you are young.

Damn ... I will be going back to school full-time (and giving up my job with benefits) next fall, about 4 months after I turn 25. 🙁

Check with your parents still. The 25-year is just what some companies use. Others might offer it to older people also. Good luck...
