For those that are in dental school, or might have any help, please respond.

My undergrad major is kinesiology. I've done a bunch of research and haven't found anyone that is in dental school who had my major. Not that it means nobody majored in kinesiology, but is this something I should worry about? Or should I just accept the role of pioneer and go for it? Thanks for any help given!

screw the "histories" of those people currently dental school... just go for it man!

jred,

I wanted to let you know that I was a kinesiology major in undergrad and am applying for this cycle. You aren't the only pioneer.

It feels good to know that I'm not the only one!

I dont think we have anything to worry about jred. We took the required prereqs and the DAT. As long as we are okay in those areas, it doesn't matter too much.

Coolio. I am a double major. I am majoring in Spanish and Kinesiology with a pre-physical therapy emphasis. I wanted to do physical therapy when I began college, but now want to do dental school. Kinesiology covers all the pre-req's, so don't worry jred. Keep ya head up bra.

My friend/classmate had that major in undergrad if that helps.

I remember Bill posted the stats for Indiana, and there was a breakdown of majors. I remembered seeing a kineseology major on there, or at least something similar. Here they are:

Well, now that I look at it, it is a Physical Education Major. But that is similar to Kinesiology, right? Geez I should know this, my brother was that major. I know he wanted to be a coach.

Just out of curiosity, what is kinesiology? I have never heard of that word? what does the work mean and what is the major?

The actual meaning of the word kinesiology is "the study of movement"

At my brothers university, most people chose this major if they wanted to be highschool coaches or move on to do some sort of physical training/exercise physiology program. He took alot of physical education type classes.

I chose kinesiology because I enjoy that type of stuff. I've always been athletic so it appealed to me. I'm doing the physical therapy tract because it covers all the pre-reqs for dental school except for organic chem.

I actually have a few friends who are kinesiology majors. One of them is a first year dental student at USC and I believe the other two are pre-pharm. Don't worry about majors. Majors in what you like and what interests you.

Since the Boston Red Sox are in the playoffs I think it would be appropriate to mention Ted Williams... He wrote the book on being the best batter in the Major Leagues-- Lots of analysis on the player's motion that goes into the perfect bat swing!

If he hadn't gone into baseball he would have been a heck of a kinesiologist.

Not that it would help the Bosox any in breaking the Curse of the Bambino, heh heh.. (apologies to our Boston-area members) 😀
