I'm currently a senior in high school who will be going off to college soon.

SHould I major in the subject that will get me the highest GPA? Even if it has nothing to do with physical therapy?

I am most worried about my GPA in college. I didn't do very well in high school.

So, my undergrad major does not matter at all as long as I can get a high GPA with it.

Major in what you're interested in and something that you can use if you decide to stray from PT. Keep in mind that you must still complete the science prereq's.

Also, do a search. This topic has beat the dead horse through multiple reincarnations.

This is true. Keep in mind that in PT school admissions, the subject of your major means NOTHING. All that matters is your GPA and (more importantly) you PRE-REQ GPA (depends on the school, but mostly Chem 1&2, Physics 1&2, Anatomy and Physiology 1&2, Bio 1&2, gen psych, abnormal psych, psych of lifespan development, and stats)

Also, remember that your time in college should prepare you for the rigors of PT school.

You're already ahead of the game by taking advantage of resources like this website.

No. That's the thing. I majored in Geography and had to back to school for two years to get the pre-requisites. Don't major in the liberal arts, whatever you do. Read novels in your own time. Definitely get a BS. If you don't, you'll probably have to go to school for an extra year to satisfy your pre-reqs. You only get so many electives (15-30 hours at most). I recommend Biology or pre-med. Stay away from exercise science or kinesiology because that'll lock you into PT.

Thanks for the info but I don't understand why I would not major in liberal arts since they are easy and would land me a great GPA. What novels would you recommend?

I am 100% sure I am going into PT so I might major in exercise science. I think it is the more interesting major.

Besides, if I go into biology or pre-med, I'd only be offered the only other alternative; med school. I have no aspirations to become a physician.

So you've never heard of PA's, nurses, clinical lab scientists, etc?

oh. I still have no interest in those fields anyway. Maybe I will have a change of heart next year... I guess I might major in biology just in case.

Don't forget that your school may offer minors also. It really sounds like you have no solid plan to follow. I would speak to a counselor about your options. Start looking into shadowing some health professions.
