Just curious if anyone had an opinion on getting your undergrad, and then applying to the medical school college of that same university may give any advantage?

Just curious on opinions.

School by school basis. Some like it ... others don't like 'inbreeding,' as I have heard it called. My University, for example, was notoriously against it.

I have heard the same, I think it matters more for a PhD than a medical degree. The research world tends to look down on inbreeding. I am going to medical school at the same school I did my undergrad and I am not worried about it. I completed my masters at another school though and at that institution you could not hold a faculty spot if you did your PhD there, but for medical degrees it is not really an issue.

Like jag said it varies. My undergrad's med school liked the idea. If you had a bit lower stats but if you went to undergrad there, they would still give you an interview. They assumed that since you went to undergrad with the med school on campus, you knew more about it and were already familiar with it than outsiders. Also they were more familiar with you, your activities, and your undergrad education.

Its good to hear some positive opinions.. My current university is actually my top choice. I just hope they see it the same way.
