Should I be a medical scribe during undergrad or would I benefit more from being a learning Assit?

I am currently a sophomore, and just recently accepted an offer to become a learning assistant for cell biology. I am really motivated to help my fellow classmates excel at courses that may be hard. However, I was invited to become a part-time scribe at a new practice that is opening up in my area. Although I would really enjoy being an learning assistant(which is kinda like a TA), I would benefit greatly from the clinical experience that comes from being a scribe. But I am scared that I won't be able to handle both school and a scribe position. I also plan on doing research for the next year in the synthesis of cancer treating drugs and volunteering at a free clinic. Any advice?

Scribing will undoubtedly be a better experience for you and also your application when you apply. I gather learning assistant is essentially being a glorified tutor which in the eyes of ADCOMs will likely still be viewed as tutoring. Scribing is something that is being looked upon pretty favorably as a meaningful clinical experience so my vote is for that. Also yeah don't stretch yourself out too much, grades are #1

I would go with the scribe position over the learning assistant. Scribing will be a good opportunity to work closely with health care providers and gain clinical experience. I would caution against doing research, volunteering at a free clinic, and working part time as a scribe all at once. Maintaining a strong GPA will be a priority, so make sure you don't burnout by over committing yourself to too many activities.

Thank you for all your advice. I have decided to go with the scribing position and stop volunteering and being a learning assistant. I have a 4.0 GPA but I want to go to Georgetown so I really want to be a very strong candidate!
