Hi, first off ignore my name I'm just stereotyping the attitude of some of the posts i see on here .

I am wondering which universities allow me to JUST use my 1st year uni GPA + UMAT score when applying (Australia - but i would consider going overseas)? GPA I'm aiming for/expecting is 6.5/7. UMAT I haven't done but my spatial/comprehension skills are usually good.

I had about 2 people die & a long gnarly court case to sort out during year 12, so I basically took the year off (something i would recommend to anyone, education isn't just in the classroom 😎). Will this be a problem down the track?

Also, I've heard from friends that non-Asians can be discriminated against in the selection process (I'm Caucasian). Is there any truth to this?

ps. for those of you who managed to maintain a high GPA throughout university/college did you maintain a balanced life or just hit those books like they owe you money?

400 questions rolled into one thread.. sorry 😀

Can't help you with the international stuff. I took a year off and that seemed to help my application more than hurt it. Comments from interviewers pointed more towards it making me into a more mature person who is sure he wants to do medicine. I think it just depends on the reason for taking a year off and in your case I don't think it will hurt you but instead make you stand out. As for non-asian discrimination... 😕 Where'd ya hear that? I guess it depends on where you're applying and who you interview with. At the schools I interviewed at I didn't feel any racial tendencies.

Oh that's good news for me 🙂. Congrats on getting in!

I've just heard rumours from friends that's all (maybe they are bitter)..Those of Asian heritage have a reputation for being machine-like in their studies whilst if you are white you are pegged as lazy or incompetent.
