This semester, I am taking Biology II (lecture and lab), each of which are individual classes but are required to be taken simultaneously. The lab will involve two lectures a week, one from the professor and one from a TA and will require students to form groups and go in each week on our own time to complete research projects. While I am looking forward to the lab itself, I'm concerned about how the first couple of weeks might go in trying to find a group of students with similiar schedules of availability. I have it so that my Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings are open to go into the lab so am hoping it won't be an issue. For anyone that has taken an undergraduate class like this, was the professor laid-back the first couple of weeks of the class as students worked to form groups? Any insight into a class like this from anybody would be great as this will be the first class/lab like this for me. 🙂

I think ratemyprofessor will be more useful in answering the quality/type of the professor.

Just make sure you choose people you know, because I had a gunner in my class in a similar situation and the group did not have a great time doing it.

I'm sure it'll be okay. I can understand why you are apprehensive about this system, but I am sure the professor and teachers are used to dealing with a few early road bumps. I'm sure it's a pretty large class and after a little bit you'll be able to find some people to form a group with. Also, this is a good opportunity to use the wonderful powers of facebook.

Good luck

Thank you both for your imput! I did look the professor up on ratemyprofessors and she did seem to have good feedback from students. I do believe it will be a large class as I was able to see that there were 120 students in my lecture alone which can only mean at least the same number or more students in the lab. I'm hoping the online portion of the site will open soon to find out more about what the lab will involve. Thanks again!
