UNE class of 2016?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was there on the 7th and received my acceptance the next week...it's a pretty hefty non-refundable fee though to secure your spot! Especially so early in the application process...I'll probably send in the money because any other interviews I have aren't until after the fee is due and I wouldn't want to give up a school that accepted me for a maybe-school that's cheaper! (cost is my main deterrent for UNE right now. It's pretty outrageous).

Got accepted after interviewing on Dec 7, and I just sent in the deposit $$. Very excited for the fall.

Congrats. I was also there on the 7th and got my acceptance letter. I absolutely loved the school and the area. I felt very comfortable and I could tell that the faculty really cares about its students. Only thing thats holding me back to committing 100% is the tuition.

The deposit is 1000$. Totally agree about the high cost of tuition. Despite the numerous threads on this website denouncing high-cost schools, I think there is something to be said about going with your gut feeling. UNE definitely felt "right"

Just put my deposit down too! Very excited and a good feel when I went

Congratulations 🙂 I am going there Feb 1st for an interview. Any advice you can give me?

Before your interview you will have a small lunch and get to talk with current students. I would take advantage of that time and ask students any concerns or questions you have about the University. All the students that were there when I went were very laid back and more than happy to answer my questions. Interviews are pretty laid back. Be expected to answer some of the general questions such as why do you want to be a pt, why UNE, your biggest weakness and strength etc. Also, be prepared to ask your interviewer questions. Good luck and keep us posted on how it went 🙂

Thanks for the positive thoughts, Instigator! Did you decide to commit to UNE?

Would any of you who have been accepted mind sharing your stats? Thanks!

I sent in my deposit but I'm debating between UNE and UNC. It's going to be a really tough decision. How was your interview? What were your thoughts about the school?

I wouldn't mind seeing these too 😀

I might be considered a little more non trad, I've been working for the last two years and taking pre reqs

Overall 3.6
pre req 3.3

Did both of you apply to UNE?

Yes. Just had my interview there on Friday; I loved the school and the town. I'm nontraditional too... been working for a couple years as an ATC. Did you have a lot of observation?.

For PTCAS I just put in the number of hours I worked in an outpatient clinic which was quite a bit, I want to say it was 2K at the time of my application. I also did small amounts of observations at a SNF and inpatient care.

Are you looking at any other schools or heard anything from somewhere else?

I was waitlisted for interviews at Regis (my top choice) and Pacific. Still waiting to hear back from the majority of schools, but UNE was my top pick behind Regis. I'll be pretty bummed if I don't get in. I'm a ball of nerves right now. Who did you interview with. I'm about the same as you with observation hrs too... tons in an OP clinic (like 3000+) and two in a SNF

Did you decide whether you'll be attending UNE or UNC?

I havent decided just yet. It's a really tough choice for me because I liked both schools a lot, each brings something unique to the table. I interviewed with Jim. It was a really laid back interview, nothing too hard to answer. If you were to attend UNE where would you be coming from? Im assuming the west coast?

Utah... well Park City (which isn't Utah in my opinion). I absolutely loved Portland. The people are so friendly and there is so much to do outside. I think it would be a perfect fit for my personality. What about you? Are you east coast?

No, I would be moving from Illinois. Chose to go out east because I'm tired of all this prairie land and unpredictable weather.

Well, best of luck in your decision making process. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I got in and my stats are as follows (according to PTCAS anyways):
3.19 cummulative GPA
3.5 pre-req
152 Q, 157 V, 4.0

I'm also a non-traditional as I've been working the last few years and took almost every single pre-req at a CC the last 2.5 years...seems like non-traditional is something they value here. debating between this place and one other....

My interview went really well, but everyone seems to say that after UNE interviews. Like was said before, it is pretty laid back.

I liked the school. It's definitely tiny, but Portland seems nice. They said we would know by this Thursday/Friday whether were were accepted, waitlisted, or denied.

I have 4 more interviews. At this point, if I was accepted, the only thing that would hold me back is the large tuition (~100k) compared to my state school that would be 55k...

What do you guys mean by non-traditional?

What do you guys mean by non-traditional?

I meant that I majored in something completely unrelated to PT (things like biology or kinesiology or exercise science all seem to be popular pre-PT majors), worked for several years after undergrad (in an unrelated field) before even thinking about going to PT school. Then I had to work my way into contention by taking lots of classes and trying to make a life switch... however it seems like more and more PT is becoming something that people get into later in life (although I'm still in my 20's so I didn't waste too much time) and PTs now come from all different backgrounds so the more I get into this the more I find people with backgrounds like me so perhaps non-traditional doesn't carry as much merit as it used to... I think of traditional students as people who are coming out of undergrad already primed for PT school and head straight into grad school. At my interviews those seem to be the majority (and frankly I wish I had the foresight to plan this much when I was 19 or 20...I would have loved to have started my career five years earlier! but better late than never...)

Oh ok that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

hey I'm interviewing at UNE on feb 22.. anyone else on that date?

hey, anyone committed for the fall?

I really loved it but I'm having so much trouble deciding between UNE & Boston.
what made everyone choose une? ...my deposit has to be in by tomorrow anyway but I figure I may as well throw this question out there..

It was a really difficult decision to make but I just had an overall good feeling UNE. Professors, students, and the area seemed really laid back. They have a great track record of students passing the licensing exam and graduating from the program. One of the keys I think of the program is that clinicals ( each are 12 weeks) are a little longer than the traditional 8 weeks. For someone like me this is great because I learn best by doing/experiencing. What ever your choice good luck and congrats on your acceptances : )

Does anyone know when UNE waitlist movement can start happening? I'm waitlisted at UNE and Chapman! I am crossing my fingers.

My friend contacted Ben because she's also on the wait list and he said that you can expect movement the first or second of may because that's when the next round of deposits are due. Good luck!

Hey UNE class of 2016...

I've been looking into housing and I'm finding that it would make a lot more sense to get a house with a few other people rather than renting a room.. seems cheaper & more options of much nicer places.

anyone interested??

I'm looking for a place pretty close but if we have a few students together it'd be easier to live a little further.

if this sounds good to anyone, pm me and we can discuss further!
