Got accepted to both schools. Having the hardest time making a descision. I love both programs!
I somewhat prefer the ocean front location of UNE, but I have in-laws only a drive away from MU-COM. UNE would be a flight from all family, which personally is not a problem although it could be awkward with the family.
I want to attend the school that will make available the most oppurtunities. I understand UNE is more established, but MU has shown some good results. At the moment, I am interested in Internal Medicine. Can anyone share some good opinions?
Greatly appreciated

Both great schools.

I'd go with MUCOM based on location, but that's just me.
Would the fact that MU is not "established" be of any concern? I always figured that when applying to residencies it would be important to have a large amount of practicing alumni. However, it has been said that Marian has exceptional connections with hospitals within the state of Idiana.

I have a high opinion of both schools. One caveat is that UNECOM has required lecture attendance. This is a turn off for me.

Why do you feel that mandatory class attendance is caveat? I asked a few students while interviewing and they seemed to not have any strong opinion on the matter. Of course I also would not expect them to bash the curriculum while giving me a tour. I have never really had the decision to either attend or not attend a lecture. So I don't fully understand the benefits of being able to miss out on lectures

I firmly believe that adult learners are the best to decide how they themselves learn, and the "sage on the stage" is actually not the most optimal modality of delivering content. For many people, lecture attendance is a waste of time. This is especially true now that we have recorded lecture technologies.

Is looking at match list a useful tool in evaluating the opportunities the school provides to match in a specialty? I'll skim through both match lists and I am more impressed by UNE's recent match. However, I consider the fact that MUCOM is a new school and therefore assume that the first graduating class consisted of less competitive matriculates. Conclusion: perhaps MUCOM match in less competitive residencies/specialties due to inherent facts of their student body (incoming class most likely had lower gpa/mcat) that caused them to obtain lower grades and board scores during medical school.

Anyway having a most difficult time making a decision. My major factors I'm considering is opportunity and finances. If I commit to primary care my education would be ~60 thousand (over four years) cheaper at MUCOM. I am interested in primary care. But perhaps in two years I will want to practice in a specialty. Again, looking at match list, my "opportunities" to specialize would be greater if a attend UNECOM.
Had no idea choosing a school could be this difficult... @Goro @Laterthansooner

It's always good to have better options. Besides that 60k extra won't be too hard to pay off once your a doctor...

Hi Goro, I just came across your post after having a conversation with another member. I am an OMS-I at UNECOM and wanted to let you know that the mandatory attendance policy has been changed. Most of our lectures are now optional. We do have a mandatory lecture here and there, but as the semester has gone on, they have decreased in number significantly. Just thought I would make you aware 🙂
