UNE or Nova???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey Kumar,

Love the name!! (My middle name is Kumar!!) Anyway, I had both the options of choosing UNE and NOVA. I chose NOVA simply because I felt more at home there. The academics at both schools are strong. When you compare board scores....it's a little thing to weigh in my judgement. As long as the school has a passing rate above a 90%, you know the curriculum is good. Now, how well you do on the boards is how much time you put into studying. As for location, it didn't matter because both Maine and Florida are far away from Ohio. I loved the scenery at Biddeford. It was absolutley gorgeous. Also, Nova's area is just as pretty. Plus, you gotta love warm weather!!I chose Nova simply because I felt it gave me the best opportunity to advance in the medical field. Now, take in light, my preference is different from everyone's. I hope this helps and let me know what your desicion is.

I'm a MSIII at NSU and I was looking at both as well. The biggest problem that I saw with UNE was that you have to do your clinical years in like Ohio or Pennsylvania or some other god awful place. At NSU you get to stay in FL and can go to Lauderdale, Miami, Daytona, Orlando or Tampa. That was my main reason for choosing NSU.

disclaimer: I am from Maine, applied to a few schools but really wanted to attend UNE. I have been accepted as a member of the class of 2007 and do not know much about NOVA (I didn't apply) so what follows is going to be biased. 🙂

Here is some information about UNE:

The 3rd year clinical sites

the match list for UNE class of 2002 (I linked this to show the diversity of places people matched and the types of medicine they are doing)

And lastly, a link to a forum discussion that took place in 2001 - I know it's "old" but there is some good information about UNE (I believe most of it still applicable) and why one student chose it. Scroll down to get the "meat" of the discussion.

Good luck with whatever you choose! 🙂

Do you want to live in Maine or Florida?

That right there seems like enough of a deciding factor.

Chicken or fish?
