UNE vs Midwestern IL

Hi guys

So I was recently accepted into UNE and Midwestern. I am really having a hard time deciding on which school to go to. I was hoping that could get your opinion on wha should I do. Here is what I came up with so far

UNE

Pros:
1) About 100K cheaper for the 4 years
2) Smaller class size, 64 students, which is half the class size of Midwestern
3) Pass and fail grading system, starting next year.

Cons:
1) City is really small, there are only 2 Walmarts in portland
2) No block schedule
3) a little colder than Chicago
4) Campus is really small, and I got a little depressed when I walked in the library.

Midwestern

Pros:
1) It's in Downers Grove, which is about 20 miles away from Chicago.
2) Campus is big
3) Block schedule
4) On campus Housing

Cons:
1) Really super expensive, like 460 K for the 4 years. ***
2) Bigger class, like 125 students.


*** The price is really making me lean towards UNE, but I don't know what to do. Please help.

Don't mean to derail your question, but could you elaborate on how you came up with 460K for MWU IL?It is hard to find information on the school since it is new. I thought it was closer to 300K, which I still find hard to justify. It's only 1 of 2 schools to offer me an interview so far so I know beggars can't be choosers, but that is a lot of money. What a tiring, expensive process...

If you include cost of living it's easily this much if not more, just look at the info they give you at the interview.

According to the ADEA guidebook the costs of going to MW is just over 100k per year including costs of living. So over 4 years you are looking to pay 415k or so before interest.

My calculations include housing and everything because i have no family members whatsoever in those states

I think that you are exaggerating the size of Portland. Portland itself is 66,000 people with a metro of about 250,000. While it's not Chicago, I seriously doubt that there are only 2 Walmarts and nothing else there--not to mention that it's a huge tourist area. $100,000 over 4 years really an easy choice. That $100,000 will swell to almost $200,000 by the time you pay off the loans. Just not worth it. That $100,000 could be put into your practice someday vs going back to the dental school.

UNE- I think the p/f grading system is a plus. In addition, the administration all are very experienced (a lot coming from Tufts), so they know what works and what doesn't. They are also very encouraging of students suggestions on what to improve upon, so I feel like your needs would be addressed.

UNE. My opinion is to always go to the cheapest option. I also had an interview at UNE and loved it! I'm going to a Texas school, but if not UNE would have been my choice.

That is ridiculous. Schools are bending us over - which I don't find hard to believe after the costs of the application cycle. I really hope the bubble bursts for dental schools. To the OP, definitely UNE (cheapest option, if you can call that cheap)

Yeah man, tell me about it. I looked up MW-AZ for curiosity's sake. Freaking 440-470k total with tuition rising between 4 and 7% annually. Who knows where all that money is going to or what they are doing with it.
