Has anyone who's gone to UNECOM have a reccomendation on where to stay? I was thinking of the Holiday Inn Express in Saco because I won't have a car there, and I like that they have a shuttle from the airport and to the school. But since my flight arrives in the morning, is there anything to do in the area? Are there any places to go and eat nearby? I see only 2 hotels on the list they gave that have airport shuttles. If I stay somewhere that doesn't, and have to take a cab to the hotel and then a cab to the school and then a cab back to the airport, it seems like it might be cheaper to rent a car. But I'd rather avoid it because I'm under 25 and have to pay an extra $25 a day. So any recommendations?

I stayed at the holiday inn express. Two thumbs up, especially the shuttle to/from the airport and UNE. Nothing to do near the hotels, as they are in the industrial part of town. I rented a car for a day and it was like $70 w/ the under 25 and it was worth it. Go with National if you'll be renting, they're the cheapest.

I concur with the Boner. Hampton Inn was good, but you can't beat that Holiday express with the airport/campus shuttle. IF you want to rent a car though, then I guess hotel doesn't matter. I'm under 25 and only paid $15 a day extra, I think, you should go to the portland jetport website and check out the car companies to compare prices

I have to get a hotel still for next Saturday, and I think the Hampton Inn is where Ill be staying. I had a very god experience with one in FL. I dont need a shuttle tho, since I will be driving up.

drkuba, the Hampton Inn is really nice and I would totally recommend it if you are getting a car.

Don't forget to tell them that you are interviewing with UNECOM, they give you a discount.

Do you remember which company you used? I'm finding they all say $25 a day. And needing the car for 2 days (the day I get there and the 2 day rental period) really adds up, so I'm still a bit unsure. Anyone know if it is likely to snow at hte end of November in Maine? I don't have a problem driving in snow, but driving in snow in a new place driving a strange car is a bit more than I would be comfortable with.

I flew into Manchester, NH and drove the 85 miles to Biddeford. I used EZ Rentals, and paid $15 a day for underage charges

It could snow, apparently they get a lot, but the roads are really good and highly used from Manchester to Biddeford, and from Portland to Biddeford

oh yeah it will probably snow up there... winter is moving in fast up in new england.

or so i hear, being at school in southern california where it is 75 and sunny I wouldn't know for sure. 😉

for your free day you could go skiing at sunday river (70 miles from portland) or just hang out in portland. it is an awesome city.

Hi,
I stayed in the Comfort Suites in Biddeford for my interview last March. It was very, very nice for the price! The room was large (try to get a corner room if one is available). They had a little indoor swimming pool and free continental breakfast. For the breakfast, they even had a waffle maker to make your own waffles, it was great!
I also visited last month and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Saco (we got a better price there than at the Confort Suites). It was excellent. Nice room, comfy poofy beds to sleep on. The room was smaller than at the Comfort Suites, but still very nice. I think we only paid like $69--a steal! Also, they have a small exercise room that I used. It had a couple treadmills, an elliptical and a bike. It served it's purpose! The Hampton Inn also had an awesome free continental breakfast with yogurt, fruit, cereal, bagels, muffins, sausage, eggs, tea, coffee, etc. It was way more than I expected.

Both hotels offered a discount to those visiting UNECOM. However, they may need to see your interview or acceptance letter, so bring it with you.

We had a meal at the 99 in Biddeford, right down the street from the Comfort Suites. The 99 always has good price for a good price. We also ate at the Captain's Galley in Saco. I found a website: http://www.captainsgalley.net
(if you need to know where it is). It was a good meal, not too expensive. They have lobster and the traditional Maine seafood. But the service was a little slow.

Hope this helps!!!

Kristin 🙂
