UNECOM questions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
DocMom,
Get cracking on those supplemental questions now that you have them ahead of time. Seriously, do NOT give up hope b/c interviews will continue well into March. We just started the interviewing machine recently so things are kinda still warming up. 🙂
The drive to Albany for my wife and I can sometimes be in just under 4 hours (traffic not a problem and going with the flow of fellow travelers) or, about 5 if you take the scenic, no-tolls and no traffic route thru NH, VT and then thru Troy via rte 7. Nice drive when weather permits otherwise those mountain roads in VT are nasty. If you have any questions about the area here or anything really, feel free to PM me.
Good luck!
-Cheers,

To live in Portland you need a car and if it will snow, you won't be able to drive!
I don't want to bring my car here!
How much is the rent? Ranges I meant

You'll want your car b/c you need some for a travel to get to campus to study in the gross anatomy lab a 1am, seriously.
This is Maine, they have been dealing with clearing the roads of snow for many a moon now, so don't fret.
We do not have the best public transportation here in Biddeford. The University does have an agreement with the local bus company (show ID and get a free ride!) but its still in it infancy. You still need to go to a "park and ride" kind of location.
If you lived really close to campus (like within a few miles) and have a bike, then you could get away with that mode of transportation for a while.
My wife and I pay about $180 a month for our utilities ( Road Runner, Digital Cable and Electricity, H&HW are covered by the landpeoples). We have Hell...er I mean Verizon as our cellphone co. Great reception here in this part of Maine. You could get away with a much cheaper Road Runner internet set-up if you want, I think its the $50/month or so.
Rent here in Biddeford/Saco/Biddeford Pool area runs from 300-900 depending on if you live with people or not and are close to the ocean. My wife and I pay $850 for a 2-bedroom place within about 10-15 minute drive to campus. In my building there are 4 apartments, all occupied by medical students. My friend and I are 1st years, the 2 girls that live in the other apartments are 2nd years. Okay, I've said enough.
Cheers!

-Cheers,

Thanks! I love that drive on route 7. It is beautiful. My sister went to Dartmouth and that was the way I went to visit her. I don't know whether to want an interview or not. I truly love DCOM, but I am very conflicted about moving so far away from my parents. I keep freaking out and thinking I shouldn't go at all and that I should just go do a PhD or something. My mother-in-law has been pushing the NP thing. LOL! She doesn't really understand it and my degree is in biology anyway. I am so torn about the whole thing and I know a lot of people on here go through similar emotions. I love the DCOM, the area, and I know that I am making the right decision, but it is just a really hard one. I keep thinking that UNECOM might be better because it is closer, but who knows. I don't know if any school could measure up to DCOM in my mind. I interviewed at NYCOM and then withdrew post-interview because I don't want to live so close to the city and I can't afford the COL. NYCOM is even closer than UNECOM to me, but that didn't matter. I am sure I have posted this before, but I will say it again. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that I will end up where I belong. I guess now I just sit here and wait for that to happen. 🙂

Definitely interview if you get invited!!
You can always turn down an acceptance, but you can't turn it down if you don't get the option. 😀
