Hi - I got into UNECOM in october, and then just got into NOVA-COM last week. I am having a hard time deciding between the two schools. Basically - i am leaning towards UNECOM and here is why:
It seems that UNECOM is better during the first two years with basic sciences. There is a bigger emphasis on anatomy at UNECOM (they dissect four times a week compared to once a week at NOVA (or so i was told at the respective places)) Moreover, the class size at UNECOM (115) is a lot smaller than the 200 that NOVA is expecting in the class of 2004. I think it is better to be in a small class because of the stronger community feeling that is probably built. Also - I was told that UNECOM is pass/fail while NOVA is not, thus there is probably less competition at UNECOM. NOVA has its advantages in the clinical years it seems, and of course there is the weather, but I didn't want that to be a big consideration. Anyways - those are the things that are making me lean towards UNECOM - but please give advice as to whether i am wrong or right- i'm all ears!!

If you look at the ratings, NOVA is currently at 3.53 while UNECOM is at 3.00. That would mean that you should go to NOVA. However, it may not have been updated yet, and anyways it could change by the time you matriculate. So I say, hold both acceptances and check this board right before orientation, and go to the one that is ranked higher.

What rankings? Do you mean this site's rankings? Considering some schools are more represented than others by students of the respective schools- I don't think its very objective. What are the criteria, is there any sort of reasoning behind it?

US News and World Report Rankings for top primary care schools has been published. Nova dropped off the list and UNECOM is now ranked. I don't know what that means, but at least there must have been some rational behind it.

I just checked the rankings. According to these stats, AZCOM blows away KCOM, CCOM, and MSUCOM. rrrright.....

Oh, and DMU does also?

You know, if this site really wants to improve, how about posting useful info. Such as average board scores, residency match lists, residency director rankings... something to actually help in the decision process.

I imagine that you have already decided, but I had to choose between UNECOM, NOVA, and a few other schools. The point is that I chose UNECOM because the atmosphere was more friendly. Maybe a lame reason, but I just had a gut feeling and as time goes on I am glad that I made that choice.
