My score just came out 2 days ago and it was unexpectantly good. I didn't apply much out of my home state, Texas, because I did not believe I did well in the exam and my previous scores would never get me into a MD school out of state. But with the recent score, what out of state schools would you guys recommend I apply?

Community College GPA(1.5 years): 3.93
University GPA(2.5 years): 3.61
MCAT scores: 506, 504, 511 (from oldest to recent)
Volunteering: 300+h (hospital,hospice, etc.), 50+h (non-clinical)
Shadowing: 50h

I don't know if med schools look down on community College, so I separated the GPAs. I'll also update the post with my sGPA once I calculate it later. I'm using LizzyM as well to apply out of state, but want to get some opinions from real people. I'm currently doing all the secondaries from TX, but my application might already be considered late since most med schools don't even look at it until your scores come in I hear. Hopefully I'm able to finish all of them along with the schools I apply out of state...

Any help would be appreciated!

Mid and low tier out-of-state schools. Your Texas schools are still your best bet. Good luck. That 511 doesn't change things that much for OOS schools - it's only a five-point gain, and that after two scores around 505. Many schools average all MCAT attempts.

Thanks for the reply! I also think Texas is my best shot. But I want to apply to a couple of OOS schools anyway just to increase my chances even slightly.

I also heard that most schools average the mcat scores, so I maybe I should look at school statistics around a 507 mcat instead.

Eh...Give yourself a 508, maybe a 509. Texas is your best shot, then go for schools like UVM or NYMC. Good luck!
