I am finished asking for help, but I still feel I was not out of line. If it is indeed illegal to give out the list then I am sorry that I asked anyone to do it.
I am going to state my case one more time then I'll disappear...
I used ERAS and applied to a couple of programs, I did not get an interview so I decided to wait and scramble, there certainly isn't any sense in registering for the match afterall what program would possibly rank someone without even meeting them......sounds like an okay plan so far.
Well I got up yesterday morning to get all my papers together (board scores, LORs, personal statements, etc.) I also thought it would be a good idea to make sure my fax program was working. Everything is still fine at this point.
Finally I do a google search for "residency match" and I find the NRMP site....still good... Now I try to go through the site to see where the unfilled programs will be listed and... BAM I read through and it says I had to register Nov. 30th and that I won't be able to see the list until the scramble period is over...OUCH.
Well now panic sets in, I call NRMP and they say "Sorry", I call my Medical school and they say "we are an osteopathic school and I don't think we will have access to that", I call a buddy that went to an Allopathic school and he calls his school and they say "we'd like to help, but we can only give that out to students at our school", I call the DME where I did my training and they say, "sorry We only have the positions that we filled or didn't fill"
If I were still at a training hospital it would be different, I would go to the library and somebody would be going through the list and I'd say let me see too. But now that I am a few years out it's not that easy so I thought I had a great idea.. let me check out some forums, certainly someone will share their list. And I thought offering money would help the arguement that I wasn't trying rip off NRMP and save money and at the same time reimburse the person for taking time out of their schedule during a hectic and stressful time. Oops, I guess that wasn't such a good idea
So no I'm not trying to cheat the system, I'm not trying to get an unfair advantage, I'm not suggesting the match doesn't work well, I was just such a poor applicant that I didn't need to register for the match-and now we all know that actually I did need to register.
ps. I'm really not that poor of an applicant, I just made the decision to do something else late in the interviewing season.
So long sorry for the "unethical" behavior.
