So I've been accepted to SUNY Downstate! That's good news..Bad news- I'm still completing A & P 1 and 2 this semester but the problem part is I'm actually taking 3 credits of each instead of 4 with their labs..and the school website says they require 4 credits of those classes each..Do I tell them and try to see what I can do or ignore it and see if they catch on? The program starts this summer so there's no way I can even complete the labs over the summer!? Help!

Did you ever take another science course with a lab? like Biology or Chemistry, they might accept those lab courses.

If they didn't notice that the courses were 3 credits from your transcripts maybe it's alright.

Yeah, I mean it would be unfortunate when the program started for them to kick you out. But if they're already accepted you I would assume that they checked and saw that all your pre requisites were adequate enough. Are you waiting for other schools choices or is this the one you want to go to? If you have other options I would say something, if not then just keep quiet but just know you are taking a risk! Congrats on the acceptance! 🙂

yea I did take Bio and Chem with lab..that's what I was thinking but I'm scared to hear what they say and exactly I mean they saw my transcript which said I'm in process of completing 3 cr. of those classes and didn't say anything. And yea this is my first school choice, haven't heard from any other school..Thankss for your feedback

hi
Im a downstate student, MY A&P 1 and 2 was 4 credits, but if already accepted pending those 2 courses I think they already looked at those pending courses, the number of credits dont really mater as long as it is A&P and it has a lab. Trust me you need a lab for because you will have cadaver anatomy in the summer and it is not a walk in the park. So my suggestion to you is call the admissions office and but dont tell them that you got accepted or anything just as a casual question about prereqs or call the OT department and ask. It is risky because if you get those grades and it is not the A&P they are asking for they may ask you to leave because you need the appropriate prereqs before you start the program. But it may be fine since the admissions office does not send your application to the OT program unless you have all the prereqs and other affairs are in order. I think its better to be safe than sorry, I wouldnt just let it go if I were you.

yea I'm not taking the labs because my school wasn't offering the classes with the labs that's why they're 3 credits each..Gosh I don't know what to do I'm scared they'll be like sorry you can't attend

Hi
I dont know that for sure. I dont know, I think you should call them. find out because if its a mistake and they didnt know about it they will tell you what to do. Im sure since your already accepted they will consider that. Good luck

I agree w/ caduceus27. You have to call, and if you get passed through on some level beyond having to do it all over again ... if you want it to stick...you had better get it in writing signed by admissions and/or the dean.

Things change a LOT when other people start looking at your records. Save that letter and it will save you.

But honestly I think you will be taking those over again. Anatomy w/o lab is very un-anatomical.

yea so thank god I called! Theyre making me take it again so I found colleges that give it online. Cant believe it. First of all its my schools fault for not even offering it with a lab! thanks for ur help guys

See its a good thing you called they may have asked you to leave. Having the A&P lab is essential before entering the program and you would have been behind everyone else because of cadaver anatomy. good luck this semester and I hope I see you in June.

Thanks caduceus27! Me too! May I ask what the courseload and schedule was like during the first summer? I'm not accustomed to taking classes in the summer! Was it super difficult or will I also be able to have some leisure time..?

Hi
In the summer there will be 2 classes Foundations of OT I and Human Gross anatomy. Human Gross anatomy is the tougher course. You will be learning all of Human anatomy in about 3 months. It is pretty intense because of the massive amount of material needed to be absorbed, it does require time commitment. However there is time for a social life but be prepared to spend the summer studying alot for anatomy. Hope that helps
