Unintentional Institutional Action

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Cheating looks bad. Very bad. You have some explaining to do in your applications. Is it impossible to get into med school in the U.S? No. But it is much harder now with a cheating IA.

Your story doesn't add up and I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Why don't you try to explain the situation to your professor first?

How doesn't it add up? I accidentally submitted a test that I changed for a regrade and I realized my mistake but I couldn't act upon it due to lack of wifi on family vacation and the honor accusation email beat an email that I was going to send to the teacher.

How would you accidentally submit it for a regrade? Seems like that would take a lot of specific conscious actions.

If you realized your mistake you would have known how serious the situation was and tried everything to correct it immediately. First, there are not many tourist places without internet. Second you could have called from anywhere.

To be honest you sound pretty guilty here.

Does not look good my friend. Either you're an idiot or you're lying. Your story is a bit sketchy, I would own up to it on your app when you have to report it.

If you don't have an IA yet, talk to your professor and try to avoid it. If you already have it on your record or your instructor doesn't believe you, then you can try to appeal the IA. You will likely have a hearing at that point and if they choose not to grant the appeal, then you're seriously hurting on your app. If they do grant the appeal, you still have to report it on your applications, but it won't look nearly as bad because of the rescindment.

I was in the mountains and I didn't have access to wifi or service. I didn't realize that the situation would be acted upon so quickly, which is why I didn't go out of my way to fix them.

How did you accidentally submit it?

I was going through my hwk and tests to get points back through regardes and I found this question on a test which was the same answer as the key. And so I submitted it thinking that the TA made a mistake

So you said they acted really quickly on the IA yet you also had time to (I assume) travel from your school where you submitted it to the mountains where there was no internet or cell service?

Yeah this is the second time this has happened within the last couple weeks. I really don't understand the carelessness.

I think that in a lot of these cases people know full well they are cheating, and then post on here in order to get advice on what to do if their version of the story was actually the case.

From what I've seen adcoms say, a cheating IA means you should either find another career or first engage in 5-10 years of some honest, virtuous position of responsibility.

I am so stealing this quote, jd! You said it far more eloquently than I ever could.

Going to lawschool would probably be the best bet for you now. Most are scumbags.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't get used to the new Goro avatar.
