It has been a long time since I posted here on SDN. The last time I posted I talked about how I had some significant black marks on my academic record. I am currently 24 and inbetween schools. I have attended a few different schools. My first two years of college I managed a 3.1-3.3 gpa. My fifth semester I did very, very poorly. I left that school after the lousy semester hoping to start anew. I had sub-par semesters at the college near my home. I just could not focus. But then again, this is nothing new.
Ever since my sophomore year of high school, I have experienced difficulty focusing on subjects. I have gotten bored easily and usually am very agitated and have a habit of fidgeting. Well a few months ago, after dropping some classes because I just didn't want to go anymore, I decided to talk to someone about what seemed to me was a psychological problem. I was thinking depression perhaps. The point is, I was never happy that I became so apathetic or was just going through the motions working a low paying job as a paramedic. I knew something was wrong.
Fast forward a few months and here I am with a diagnosis of Adult ADHD and medication that has made a huge change in my life. I just did a whole semester of prereqs. Even though most were retakes from earlier (poor grades earlier) I now have all A's in my prereqs and my regular college grades are improved. If I use the AACOMAS way of calculating GPA, I have about a 2.8 overall and a 4.0 sci GPA.
So now my question. Will DO schools take any consideration into the fact I had difficulty due to undiagnosed problems and that I received help and things skyrocketed? I dont believe in excuses but sometimes things can be explained.
Sorry for taking up so much space.
