Hi everyone,

I'm a fourth year honors student in NZ and I had some questions. I came here to study after graduating high school in the US (I'm a citizen) to gain life experience so most of my pre-med requirements are from NZ. AMCAS said they won't verify my credits so will the med schools I apply to do so? Or can I get WES to evaluate my transcript and send it to the schools with my AMCAS application?

And does it disadvantage me that AMCAS won't verify my credits?

I'm a bit confused on the whole process because I'm not an international student becasue of my citizenship but then there's the foreign credits...so not quite sure where I stand.

Also just wanted to know if there is anyone else with a similar situation to mine. Thanks😎

Hi again,

Just had another quick question-for volunteer hours the suggested number of hours is 300+. Will this need to be completed before we submit our application? Thanks

I don't know about the international credits.

Regarding the volunteering, the bulk should be completed before your application - typically applicants have volunteered regularly over the 18 months before they apply.

Most US med schools require that you do at least a year of coursework in the US, if I'm not mistaken. You should call individual schools stressing that you are a citizen and see if they will accept your coursework.
