Hopkins does not dominate the Baltimore area. There is Sinai and UMD to help 🙂 I am at Hopkins, but I can tell you that UMD still gets good volume. Since Hopkins is the pediatric trauma center for the city we tend to have a busier PICU and ED but overall I think UMD is still a great place to see a good variety. I at least think it is worth interviewing there. I am sure someone from UMD can speak more to this. Good Luck!
For what it's worth, my chair (of a midwest program, who trained at Boston Children's and has been on faculty in other regions) is absolutely obsessed with UMD. He says Maryland's a really strong program and talked me into adding it on my list. Take that or leave it, though! Good luck. 🙂
