This is a question for a friend. In the Univ. of Wash. secondary it has a section for an autobiographical statement. In the application it says that you can either use your personal statement from AMCAS app or write something new. My friend wants to know if writing something new will actually help her or if keeping the PS from AMCAS will be just fine.

Hey, I used my Personal statement as mine. As long as you explain your motivation and desire for medicine in your PS, then I don't see why you would want to write another one. Although it wouldn't hurt if you wanted to talk about important information not discussed in the PS. Keep in mind there's also an extra essay about why you wish to attend the UWSOM.

My personal statement was very autobiographical, so I just went with it rather than subjecting the adcom to a repitition of the same information. I don't know what new information I could possibly have added.

yo,

i used my personal statement too. i just put so much work into it, the thought of writing something else, that didn't overlap much, was nauseating (i also don't like to write a whole lot, though).

BUT, if your friend likes to write and feels she can give more incite to who she is, than what is on her personal statement, i think she should go for it.
