hello SDNers!
So I got a letter from UB SDM saying that my application will be placed in "Continuing Review" which basically means they will periodically be reviewing my application but not giving me an interview or rejection just yet. Has anyone else been placed in this category? Is this a bad thing? I'm retaking the DATs in September so I figure it's better than an immediate rejection. Anyone with more info on this subject, please let me know! Thanks!

I think that they are probably waiting until you re-take the DAT to make any decisions. I know that if you indicate on AADSAS that you are
re-taking, ASDOH won't finish processing your application until they get your new scores or until you tell them to use your first scores.

I haven't heard anything from UB. When did they contact you? When did you apply?

I submitted my app May 25, everything was sent out June 18. I was notified by UB that my app was received on July 25 and I've gotten a few emails from them since then. I'm sure they will get to your app soon. Good luck to you!

Having your application put on "continuing review" is better than being rejected right off the bat. Every school has something similar. If your application has not been rejected by a particular school, then it's pretty much on "continuing review" until you are rejected or offered an interview.

I was placed on "Continuing Review" last year in late summer and was ultimately officially rejected in Feb.

yea, same here

I was just curious. If you don't mind sharing, are you considered in state for NY, and what are your stats ?

I was put on continuing review at UB when I applied to dental school years ago and was called for an interview, was accepted, and thrived as a student there. Do not be worried, it is a way for them to say they would like to wait to make a decision about your application (most likely until they see DAT results in Sept). Best of luck, UB is a great place if you ultimately end up there...I have many colleagues who have graduated from other dental schools who will only refer to GP's who have graduated from UB due to the clinical abilities most graduates possess upon graduating from there (you don't realize what you are getting until you get out in the real world and see for yourself!!).

It is a very cold place.
I went there in Jan 18 last year for the interview.
My brain was frozen........ too bad; I am a southerner.
Well, anyway, I didn't do well in the interview.
So, I was placed in alternate pool.
And of course, the school starts now; no seat for me.... this year.

Do I get a prize for being placed on "continuing review" two years in a row? Did anyone get in their last year off of this list? I kinda figure its a soft rejection.

Yup. Try growing up in that crudhole.

i can't believe buffalo is putting 19AA on the waitlist so early of the cycle. Last year their average dat is a little over 19 and yet the avg. dat score is going down this year. 19AA of this cycle is at least or greater than 20AA of last cycle.

I heard it helps if you're a NY resident! Good luck everyone!
