Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone have a clearer idea on the standards to be accepted by the University of Alberta. I'm from out-of-province, and from what I hear, it's a lot more competitive, usually around a GPA of 3.8 and above. I only have about a 3.6 and was thinking if I should even apply. Did anyone from out-of-province got in last year? And if so, what were your stats like?

Thanks!

I have a 3.8 OMSAS and I doubt I would get in. The seats are severely limited already; they want as many of those as possible to go to Albertan residents.

I suggest you post in the Premed101 Dental forums. This forum is for American school admissions.

Pretty sure UofA had a 4.0 acceptance average last year. They only take like 1 or 2 out of province

I took 'rock the dat' in Calgary which is ran by U of A students a few years ago. I gotta say, it helped a lot, but I was a bit surprised at the level of difficulty of their education. Yes, U of A requires that you have a very high gpa, but they don't give a rip which courses you take, except for the pre-reqs, of course. Some had degrees in Psych, music, and fine arts, while others got in after 2 years of science undergrad. Obviously, U of A is a very good school and I'm not here to talk them down, but they are one of those schools that focus entirely on how well you did rather than the difficulty of your program and course load, academic progression, etc. If you really want to go there, just be aware that you must have a high 'cumulative' gpa. No bad years allowed! If you are under 3.6, then make sure your dat aa, rc, pat, and carving are 20's. I remember them saying they really like high RC scores. I realize this may have not helped you that much, but all the best!
