I thought I might start a thread over here for those of us already accepted and confirmed and 100% going to CU... it's a more appropriate place than the pre-pharm forum to talk about things like roommates, housing, jobs, moving, skiing, etc., etc.

Should we start out with where you're from, academic background (bachelor's degree or not; if so, in what?), and previous exposure to pharmacy? I think we should.

I've lived in Denver for 16 years.
I have a BA in English (am I the only one? probably) from a few years ago. My grandfather was a pharmacist and owned his own drug store until about 1986. He kept his licensure in three states up until his death last year. I'm doing this partly in honor of him (and for my own reasons, too).

I was wondering if someone was going to add a thread for our class here!

I've lived in California all my life, mostly in the bay area. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology. I worked in a pharmacy for two years, but I got my real passion for the field from my grandmother who had osteoporosis.

Looking forward to meeting everyone! We should all try to meet up the week before school starts!

Great idea. As a Denver resident already, I can meet up any time this summer. Of course, we'll get plenty of time together during that first week, won't we?

Hey everyone
I am from North Carolina, so I am really excited and nervous about moving so far. I went to UNC and will graduate in a couple weeks with a BS in Chemistry. I never got any pharmacy experience, but I had a really fun job as a teaching assistant. I don't really have someone in my life that inspired me to do pharmacy, but I really love biochem (drug interactions) and teaching (working with people). Anyway just wanted to introduce myself.

yeah...that first week and years after that, lol. I just think it would be good to break the ice before orientation.

I agree! I don't know how much social time we'll have during orientation. Probably some. I do know how much we'll have during the next four years (none).

LOL I think it's just a habit for all of us to go straight to the pre-pharm forum. I actually have it as a bookmark on Safari. Gotta start remembering to check this one.
Hey charfdorn, did you get to go to the housing fair yesterday? If you did what were they offering. I doubt I'll change my mind but I'm curious 😀

No, I didn't. I was going to, but then I got busy.

I am from Columbus, Ohio. I am currently attending The Ohio State University finishing my last couple of pre-reqs. I was studying biology, but because school starts so early, I will end up just three classes short of my B.S. OSU is on a quarter system so the summer quarter would go into the end of August, and as we know we have to start on August 14, so no B.S. for me. Which, in all reality, is ok by me. If I have to hear about Darwin and his finches one more time, I might go crazy. Likewise with Mendel and his peas. Anyhow, nice to meet you all. And yes, I am on facebook and am a member of the group.

What about yourself pharmtechgirl: what part of CA are you from and where did you do your undergrad?

oh yay i was wondering where everybody went on the pre-pharm forum. i'm from socal all the way. graduated from ucla with a bs in psychobiology. i'm currently a teaching assistant there and working as a tech at my local community pharmacy. i'm really excited to start school again. it's been almost 2 years since i graduated so i'm itchin to get back. i'll be moving to co beginning of august so if any of you are around, i'm down to hang out. see you guys in a couple months!

I'm originally from the bay area. I've been living on the central coast for about two years now. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a bachelors in psych. I completed my pre-reqs at San Jose State Univ and taught some human phys labs while I was there. I'm so excited to get back to school....it has been too long and the real world sucks 😀

Hi all. My name is Norm & I am currently in BC, Canada about an hour east of Vancouver. I did my undergrad (B.Sc Biology) at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, NS (the other SMU), and have worked as a pharm tech for 9+ years now. I plan on moving to Denver the end of July providing all my paperwork is in order. It's insane how long that stuff takes! Anyways, it's nice to have this forum and I look forward to meeting all of you! :hardy::soexcited:

Congrats on being accepted to UofC. You will love it here!
Where do the pharmacy students hangout in Denver/Boulder? Again, welcome to a great program.

Hi everyone,
I have lived in colorado all my life. The school that I went to for my pre-pharm coursework was at RRCC and metro. I do not have any degrees. I hope to talk to all of you some more I'm also going to be going over to the google group to talk to all of you.

I will see you on the Google group! I am the mod of the group. You must be the one that just signed up. Let's talk over there.

Oh! I didn't know we had another group here. hehe

Hi everyone! I'm Christin. I live in Northern CA (outside of Sacramento). I received my BS from UC Davis in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have a background in health insurance (medicare replacement HMOs and self funded plans) and medical billing. I also have been involved in several research projects while at Davis, including narcotic addiction and autism. I worked as a clerk at Longs for a few months and as a pharmacy tech in privately owned compounding pharmacy. My husband and I are so excited about moving to Denver and starting school. Looking forward to meeting everyone this fall 😀

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone received their welcome packets yet? I'm from So Cal and was told that we should receive them sometime in early June. In fact, I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding the upcoming school year? Just thought that we would receive a confirmation stating that all materials were received, etc. Thanks for the info in advance!

The June packet is now the July packet. There's been some delay. I have gotten some emails with info on things like CPR classes and a lab coat order forms; did you get these?

For that matter, are you in the Google group? http://groups.google.com/group/cupharmacy-2013

Hey Charfdorn,

Thanks for the info and the reply. I did receive the CPR and lab coat emails. I just got CPR certified and I actually received the lab coat order sheet with my interview invite. Yesterday, I also received an email from Cecilia letting me know that they received all of my transcripts. I also did join the Google group but for some reason my name and introduction were not put up on the discussion board. I noticed that you interviewed on Feb 2nd...I did also, congrats again!

Hello,

I'll be joining yall in the class of 2013. Im from wisconsin, dont have a degree, took most of my prereqs at a local liberal arts college and at a 2 yr school. Im going into pharmacy because i'm really interested in chemistry and pharmacology. I have a background as a hospital pharmacy tech here in WI. Movin out there august 1st, looking forward to doing some mountain biking for a few weeks before classes start. Looking forward to the great weather too! Maybe we should see about all getting together before orientation starts!

You CO natives will have to help us find some places to meet up or chill at.

Good work charfdorn starting the usenet group ! I'll get on there soon.

Hi everyone,

I am about to purchase a new laptop before we start the semester. I was thinking of switching over to a macbook pro. Any current students (either you or someone you know) have any problems with compatibility issues using a mac? Or should I just buy another pc? Thanks for the insight!

If you don't mind the extra expense, the MacBook will be great. It's a more stable computer with a longer battery life and if friendlier to the environment. Compatibility is no longer an issue with Macs. If it turns out to be, you can always install Windows on the Mac, but any version of Office after 2003 should be 100% compatible.

Hey Charfdorn! Thanks for all the quick replies and help on all my questions. I actually went with a PC because I really don't know anything about MAC's and I'm much more computer savvy with a PC. The other thing that swayed my choice was because I found that if I got a MAC i would have to get approval from the Manager of IT at the school. I didn't want to make life any harder than it will be for this big relocation and transition. But thanks for the help anyways! You ready for the upcoming semester?

anybody want to get together sometime in the next week or so for drinks or food somewhere??

Yeah, pretty much. I had my CPR class down at the campus today. I think I have done everything that needs doing up until the actual first day, so now I get to just enjoy the week. I don't think IT approval would have been difficult, and you can always install Windows on your Mac if it is, but sticking to what you know isn't a bad idea. I have a Mac at home but my laptop is an HP. It was a cost issue for me, plus Mac doesn't make a tablet.
