hey guys can anyone guide on how to crack the university of florida interview..... with a lot of negative feedback on SN i am getting tensed already .....:scared:

Maintain eye contact, know why you want to be a dentist- the real answer, no BS about it being your lifelong dream blah blah blah... Know what you think a dentists role in community is... I was asked this question twice in a row during my first interview here. Be confident and excited about the career you have chosen to pursue. Work with Dr. Sposetti she plays a huge role in the decision process. You will do fine- remember if you have been chosen for an interview you are on the same playing field as anyone else you just have to prove your personal skills worthy of the profession. One other thing, I always used to catch myself smiling for no reason at all the students- now that I am a student at UF I know more than ever that unless your a student interviewer we play no role. Its just one of those things I did that probably made me look like an idiot that you dont have to do. Good Luck

hey danhook ,
thanx for the info..... is there any foreign trained dentist here pursuing 4 year DMD program at university of florida....

Most people go for the 2 year FTD program. Unless you are having a problem, passing boards part 1, most people do the shorter program. I personally do not know any FTD that are going for the 4 year, but that does not mean that they are not out there.

They will ask you questions about what you have on your personal statement. So, make sure you read your statement before you go to the interview. They will probably ask you: What do you think of your DAT scores?
Why are you here today?
Good luck.

Be prepared for the usual questions but don't expect a friendly conversation. They are all business. At my interview, the questions weren't so hard as how they responded to them/seemed bored by my answers/stared at the clock every 20 seconds/had a cell phone ring twice... etc. And it unnerved me. I didn't get in.

I got in the second round, which I heard is pretty difficult to do. Like the last person that commented said, they are very serious. What i tried to do was lighten them up a little bit. I made some jokes and even if there wasnt that much conversation, i made conversation. Be yourself, give serious answers but talk to them like they are your friends. It is a tough interview but if you go in calm and relaxed it will be good.

Hi there,
I really do not have a suggestion as far as u of florida interview. To be honest, once students here get into their clinical years, everyone is miserable. you DO NOT want to go to this school. Having several friends at Nova who are incredibly happy, I really regret being here. Have you interviewed at Nova yet?

Hola senoir sanchez. 🙂

I interviewed at UF this year and really thought that that things were going well until it was time for my interview. As soon as the door shut, it was a completely different game. I felt as if I was being interrogated and that none of my accomplishements were important. I told the interviewers that I was working hard to really show what I can do. At least three times, an interviewer interupted me during my respones to argue with me about them. I found this to be incredibly RUDE! I don't care if you don't agree with what I say, but at least show me enough respect and allow me to answer for myself. Second, I was told that I needed lots more observation...like I have extra time in my day between, working, taking class, studying for class, and studying for the DAT. Ordinarily, I would think that maybe it could just be me, but I know that I am a very charismatic and likeable person who interviews well. I did not deserve the treatment I received. I smiled and made nice throughtout but ended up driving away in tears. 5 weeks later I received my rejection letter. Sorry for the long story, but this may be what you encounter at your interview. Go through your interview as if they are just trying to test you to see how you will react. Be friendly and positive and remember that if you really want to be a dentist, the right school will find you. Good luck. =)

I just read Leine's response to my girlfriend and she said, "that sounds exactly like what happened to you".

my experience was similar to leine's....however, i'm on the waitlist. it's almost as if the interviewers have it out for certain people before they even meet you! 😡

jb!🙂

i also interviewed there, and it was great. i was afraid of it after reading all the negative feedbacks from SDN as well, but for me it was totally opposit. Dr. spocetti was really nice, and all the interviewers were incredable. they seemed really interested in me, and they looked totally satisfied with all my answers. one thing that bugged me was one of the students actually said "this school sucks" while we were getting our tour. (i think i read something similar from the feedback)

anyway overall, it was excellent experience, and i liked the school. however, the most important part is that i got rejected.................... i think the fact that i forgot to finish one of the prerequsits played hugh roll. :scared:

Hey all, good to hear that I am not alone in my UF experience. I will tell you that I interviewed there last year too in Jan. Interview was still pretty crappy, but I was waitlisted. I remained on the waitlist until Aug when classes started. Come to find out that they only took like 5 or so people off the waitlist last year. I really though that this year would have went better due to me almost finished with my master's & a 4.0...etc. but it went 100 x's worse. Oh well. Hang in there to all that are waitlisted, but if you don't hear anything by June send that AADSAS in ASAP just in case.

I am extremely scared now 🙁 I hope everything goes at least ok for mine, I don't care anymore if they reject me later -

Uracil - don't be. I read all the negative feedback on SDN BEFORE my interview and I was extremely scared. UF interview ended up to be the easiet and the most relaxed (ok Nova was the most) interview that I had. All I was asked about was certain activities that I mentioned on the application. I was there for less than 15 min beacuse it was just before lunch. All the ppl that were interviewing with me told me that they all had a great interview that day!!! Best of luck to u!!

Thank you Shuna..that makes me feel a little better.

Uracil,

Sorry if I scared you. I wrote all that in hopes that it would help someone. Use this info to your advantage. If they act like that during your interview, you can view it as a test and not a personal attack. Be positive and role with their punches and you'll do great.

JB's right. They have your number before you even enter the room and if there's something they don't like about you you'll have to answer for it. So be prepared to answer for your weak points and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Thank you. I know - reading about these experiences def helps...I'd know at least what to expect. I appreciate your response.

Leine4 and JB.... thank you for sharing your interview experiences. I feel SOOO much better because I seriously thought I was the only one with an interview like that (I cried that afternoon when it was over). Though mine wasn't exactly like Leine4's, it was similar in that it was not your typical, "friendly, get-to-know-you" interview, but more of like.. an awkward conversation where I felt that I had to really defend myself. Also, Dr. Sposetti tended to be silent for like 5 seconds after I was done answering a few of her questions.

Oh well, I did my best, considering it was my first interview with UF. I did not know what to expect besides the "Why do you want to be a dentist question," which sure enough was the first question I had to answer. I was nervous, no doubt, but I really wanted to just be me and real and honest.... You can't go wrong with that, even in bad times.

Anyway, I am on the waitinglist. :luck: I am anxious to hear back from UF! I check SDN everyday to see if anyone has some useful news from the school. Goodluck everyone! :luck:

How many people get waitlisted at UF? seems like there at least +10 on SDN alone.

I just wanted to say that I had my interview and it went (thank God) extremely well and a great experience 😀

Dr. Sposetti introduced herself to me with a huge smiling face..and the people at UF - including the faculty & students were soo nice, funny and friendly! Also, the students I interviewed with were the coolest/nicest people ever! ommmggg !! 😍 Ok thanks everyone for your advice & I wish you the best of the best --- GOOD LUCK :luck:

Sposetti was very honest and informative on everything related to people on the waiting list, etc. Ok the Admissions Committee meets once again for the last time in two weeks (at the end of February). They do not have a certain number of students to be placed on the waiting list - if you are waitlisted, you get on the list regardless of how many people are already actually on the list. They just take a look at the waiting list and pick the next best candidate.

The deadline for the deposits this round is on Monday. So they will actually know how many seats available they have then. That's all I know! Best Wishes!! :luck:

Ohh she said we will probably find out in two weeks and a half minimum! Don't worry- we were the last group interviewing! 😎

A new spot is now open! I turned them down yesterday....can't wait to see who gets it.

Thanks guys!!! Uracil that was very informative, and Ething....you are awesome😀

Hello!

I have to start out in thanking everyone on SDN. This forum has been so helpful to me. I was a nervous wreck after interviewing with UF. It was not really the interview that made me loose my cool because the interview went pretty well. However, after hearing all those negative comments I was very nervous on my interview day but the admissions team were much nicer than I expected them to be.

Anyway, my worries started when I did not hear from them in the first week of February as they had stated during Dr. Sposetti’s presentation. I had called them after I read that some peoples status were given out over the phone but the staff told me they were unable to discuss a students status over the phone but I would hear from UF soon. I honestly was not sure if this is good or bad.

So now over a week later, I decided to contact them again because Nova required me to put down a nonrefundable deposit of $1000 by the 22nd. This call was a bit awkward, I explained to her my dilemma and she just said ok and asked for a phone number I could be reached under today and someone will call me back. Well, again I was to a point that I was not sure if this is a good or bad sign. I guess I did not want to get my hopes up. Anyway, to make a long story short, Dr. Sposetti called me an hour later and told me that I was accepted to their 2007 class. 😀

My interview was January 5th in case anyone is wondering. So keep your spirits and hopes up it is obviously not to late. I did not ask Dr. Sposetti how many more seats are available although in retrospect I wish I did. I was just so full of joy and happiness that I did not think of you guys. Sorry! 🙁
I am sure I was not the only one who was getting more worried every day. I wish everyone lots of luck :luck: :luck: and I hope to see at least some of you in class.

Thanks again for all you who provided me some sort of info. I checked it everyday to help assess my chances. 👍
