I think I just got my first bad news. Checked my email and had one from Kentucky informing me of a hold for comparison. I know OOS there is tough but I thought with my stats I would be decently competitive. Are my chances of an interview looking pretty bleak?

Check out the similar threads at the bottom of this page. Seems to be kind of a negative but better than a rejection.

Yeah I did. Most of the others applied later but you would think an early applicant would have a better shot. 3.8+ in both overall and science and a 24 AA, 220 shadowing hours and 800 volunteer I thought would be enough. I guess not

Nah, they're looking for 4.0, 30AA, absolutely nothing below :nono:

so does it mean that you didn't even get the interview invitation?! WOW

Or, maybe they think you applied as a "safety school"??

I honestly have no clue. I would never consider any school a "safety" and didn't apply with that in mind. I just need to accept the fact that as an OOS applicant, this is the reality of applying. Hopefully others have better results!

They interview less than 10% of their OOS applicants, so it's probably much more competitive for those few spots. It's also possible that they are looking for people in a certain geographic area. From the 2014 cycle, 19 of the 29 OOS enrollees came from Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Texas.

I got that email and later got a rejection. I was a competitive applicant it's just extremely hard to even crack the surface from OOS. don't take it too hard you seem like a great applicant

Thanks for the added perspective. Where did you find the information regarding where the enrollees resided if you don't mind my asking? That is the hard part because when you look at just percentage of OOS interviewed and then accepted, the problem is that you don't know what OOS friendly really refers to. Is it only neighboring states, or equally across the nation.
