Anyone familiar with the University of Kentucky's residency policy know if you can change to in-state status after the first year? I was reading the online policy and it appears that you can after living in non-collegiate housing for a year, but I was wondering if anyone has gone through the process and what the outcome was. 50k+ a year just for tuition is really freaking steep!

Talk to Julie McDaniel. She's awesome at this sort of thing... and she can tell you the facts. Don't listen to people on a forum about this... there is too much money at stake!

Chances are, you probably WON'T get it. There's a guy in our 2012 class that his parents bought a house here that he lived in for 5 years of undergrad, it was his official residence, and when it came time to apply, he's still considered out of state.

What about marriage to a resident of KY? I'm just a pre-med who's applying, but there is a good possibility I will get engaged in the next year and married sometime after that to a KY resident. Does that change things, or are you still considered OOS if you matriculate before marriage?

I can not encourage you strongly enough to talk to the medical school itself. There are people who do this for a living, and can give you straight answers.
