University of Maryland interview- no acceptance yet?

I just want some advice from you guys.
University of Maryland invited me for an interview in November 27. I did not hear any thing from them since. I have called them and they said that my file is under the committee review. Do you think that I still have a chance of getting in this year? I have a GPA of 3.64, science GPA 3.42
DAT
PAT- 20
Bio-19
Org chem.-23
Gen chem.-19
RC- 16 (English is my second language, I do love reading though)🙁
QR- 15 (hate solving problems, I do not think I can get a better score)🙁
Science average-20
AA-18
This is my second DAT results and I do not think that I can improve it much any more. I worked as a dental assistant for five years, and now I work as a dental hygienist in Maryland. I really want to get in this year. I applied last year but could not get in because my firs DAT was on the lower side, and I did not have my BA degree yet. Now I have my BA in science with major in dental hygiene. I have also sent the director of admissions a thank you letter, hoping that it will have some influence on their decision about my case. May be I was wrong. I am at the pint of depression. I do not know what else I can do besides waiting. I have a family and I can not move like most of you young people out there, so UMD dental school is my best choice. Is there any one else in a similar situation? Did any one else had an interview on the same day and still did not get accepted? 😕

hey, hang in there. your stats look fairly competitive. the cycle is far from over. i waited until June last year before i received the good news from Maryland 😳. if BCDS is where you truly want to go be courteous and persistent. the overall atmosphere of the school is very friendly- i believe the school is looking for people that really want to come here and can handle the load of dental school.

I interviewed back in October...still haven't heard back from them

ive been accepted to NYU and Nova...but would gladly turn those down if MD accepted me

i guess the opening of the new school has brought in a lot of applicants...it must be competitive

Don't worry. I interviewd back in October 2, THE FIRST INTERVIEW OF 2008 CYCLE.
But I'm still waiting lol.

I wouldn't be worried. I interviewed on October 3rd and hadn't heard anything from them for the longest time. I got an email on January 16th saying that I was accepted. I figured I wasn't getting in since I had heard from all of the other schools I interviewed at by November 30th. I guess they just take a while to make their decisions.

My stats are 21/22/18 and my GPA is 3.85 science and 3.84 overall and I still haven't recieved an interview from them....So I don't think stats matter as much to them...

I am confused now. If stats do not matter as much as I thought, what does matter? I always thought that students with BA, high stats get admitted into dental schools first. I also understand that they look at the whole application, but what weighs more for the Maryland dental school is the question that still remains in my mind. I hope I will get accepted this year. I am really surprised that they have not called you for an interview with your stats.

They weren't higher. I have a 3.4 average and a 3.5 science gpa. On the DAT, I got an 18 science average, 19 academic average, and a 22 PAT. Just hang in there. You'll probably hear from them soon. Good Luck!!!!

I hope you are right. Your stats look some what similar to mine, so if you got accepted , then I too should have a good chance getting in. What do you think?

are you a MD resident and did you have any really low scores on the DAT? otherwise my stats are also similar to yours except my QR is low and I'm not a MD res, I hope I hear from them too and thank you for sharing your info!

I am not a MD resident. I didn't think that makes a big difference cuz MD accepts MANY out of staters...but I could be wrong about that...I hope you get in though!🙂

PS. I know exactly how you feel since my own state school just rejected me! 👎 but at least I am accepted into a better school! 😛

Are you a MD resident? They accept more state residents. I am a resident of MD, and may be that is why they called me for an interview.

I interviewed late in November and heard December 15th that I was accepted. I just passed up my acceptance...so there's another one out there for you guys to snatch up. Good luck! My stats are 19/20/23 DAT, and I have a 3.84 GPA and 3.8 Science. I have done over 2,500 hours of research over the last 3 years. Hope this helps.

I think you and I were in the same group. You decided to turn their offer down, why? I thought that their school was great. The dental equipment was cool. I have been to tens of dental offices and I have never seen any equipment like that. Anyway, I was hoping to hear from them on Dec. 15 also, and when I didn't, I was sooooo disappointed.🙁

did they share when you would find out or until when they're still interviewing, perhaps how full their class is even? that last one is always hard to get info on. Usually they just tell me they can't disclose that info. which i can understand but if you're like and still waiting for an interview it's just one more piece of info you really want to give yourself more hope that theres still time to get into this school!

They just told me that my application is under commetee review. I did not ask any more questions. They are still inviting people for an interview and probably contiue interviewing until late spring. If you have good stats and applied early you may still get an interview. For some reason MD university seem to be slower than other schools in filling their class.

It was between Nova, Maryland, and Penn. Penn I am still waiting to see if I can pick up Dean's Scholarship, and I really liked Maryland, but it was also expensive for an out of state student. If I don't end up with Penn, I'll attend Nova which is close to home and it will save me a lot of $$$.

I hope so too. The problem is that all that waiting drives me crazy. As we get closer to spring, I am beginning to lose hope.
