I got this letter from UM... Is this their standard letter and did anyone else get it or something different? I'm not sure if this is good or not.

I recieved the same exact letter. Whereas I know that means I'm on the waitlist (as I'm sure Flamingo05 was aware of) I dont know if this is the letter that everyone on the waitlist gets or not. I would like to know however if there are different versions of this letter.

Ya, I received the same wording in my waitlist letter too...but i think they DO try and differentiate the letters...you can find a similar thread from last year's applicants where someone posted their waitlist letter that said "an excellent rating" from the adcom (obviously better than my "good rating")...and then someone got a different version that didnt sound as optimistic. do any of you guys know when the list starts moving and how many are on it?!?! oh well. here, here to our "good rating" 😕

Hey! I interviewed on Feb. 25th. I was supposed to hear from them in mid-March, but didn't until the end of March, so all I can tell you is to be patient. I know it completely sucks to wait!! If you don't mind telling... when did you interview? I was just wondering b/c I was told they wouldn't start going through the alternate list until they finished evalutaing everyone's applications b/c spots had run out, so I am hoping that will be soon!

And yes here's to our good evaluation... lol! The letter is so hard to read... I mean the whole you will be placed at least temporarily thing... what's that? Do they place people on the wait list in the fall when they have spots? I'm so confused as to wheather this letter means we're ranked high on their list

Thank you for the information and the quick response! I interviewed in mid-March. I was told that they got delayed though so here I am still waiting! Although at this point, I know all I can hope for is a place on the alternate list.

Also, although I'm not positive, I think the last interview date was sometime around mid-April, in case that helps you in trying to figure out when they will be done evaluating all the applications.

I interviewed March 14 and I heard from them on April 14. I dont know what to think about anything anymore about size of waitlist and ranking and stuff.

i heard that they are suppposed to meet tomorrow to finish reviewing everyone's application that hasn't heard from them yet... i'm not sure if this is true or not... anyways if anyone hears, please let us know so we can begin to expect when the wait list will start moving... or if anyone gets in off the wait list of course! good luck everyone

hey flamingo- thanks for the info. Ya, i remember the secretary saying that the last interview day was APril 11 (maybe) and after they make decisions/rank those people, they will have a finalized ranked waiting list by the end of April....and who knows when that will move...but i'm assuming post end of May...- June....to July...sigh. more waiting. Yes. time to go walk around lab looking for something to inject myself with.

yes, the last interview date definately was april 11th... the secretary told me that when I called, which was after receiving my wait list letter (that's where I got the info that they wouldn't look at the wait list until they finished evaluating everyone's app)... she didn't tell me anything else informative though, i HOPE they finish evaluating everyone this week. USF has already started going down their wait list (know 3 people that got in during the past couple of weeks) so it has been discouraging to know that nothing is happening with the wait list for miami.

Well, I am now officially on the alternate list as well. Although I am not sure, if I was in the last group to be reviewed then the list may be finalized now.

If its any help at all guys, the list moves A LOT. A big chunk of my class, including myself, came in off the alternate list last year. I think Dr.Hinkley started calling us up in mid-May. I got the call around May 19th.

I know it sucks but just try to be patient, make sure you send the admissions office an email/letter (addressed to Dr.Hinkley!) and let him know you're still very interested if you haven't done so already.

yes miami is my first choice! I completely fell in love with it when i interviewed, which completely suprised me b/c I didn't think I was going to like it that much.... but now the waiting is killing me! I guess the only good thing we know is that they did meet last night if kcnic found out. I can only hope they finally finished the list

Well, who knows if they're done or not then... maybe my application just got postponed in processing or maybe they're just really behind. I haven't actually got an official letter yet, I just saw "Alternate List" on the on-line site where you can check your status...

I interviewed April 8th. April 28th I was sent an email informing me I was on the alternate list. Today I recieved the offical letter and it says the same thing "good rating". So I hope this list starts moving soon, I really want to stay here in Florida.

hmmm well if you heard, negrito, and you interviewed on the 8th, i assume they must be done reviewing applications since the 11th was the last interview date... hopefully that means they are starting to go through the list... please let us all know if you hear anything or if you have friends that hear anything... Miami usually only takes a few people from my school so I feel like I know nothing about when they begin admitting people again and how many people they take from the wait list. Does anyone know if the list is ranked... i'm assuming yes and will they tell us where we are on the list like USF does? Also thanks for the reassurance Arsenic!

Dr, Hinkley told us that the waitlist is ranked, but they do not tell you where you stand. The reason I say that I want to stay here is that, I have been accepted to a couple out of state schools, but FL is where I want to be. 🙂

Hey, SO I too was waitlisted at miami. This may help or demoralize (too that i am sorry), but i got a second email saying how i should fill out all their loan and scholarship crap and how the email was only sent to the top 10% of the waitlist, and then it was like, "assuming you get in, im not saying you will....but..." So that was reasurring. but i withdrew, so, goodluck to the rest of you! enjoy miami, im moving to the frozen tundra north. someone tell me why?

i think the alternate list is making us all crazy!! kcnic, haven't heard from you in awhile... just wondering are you still interested in miami? And for everyone else... was anyone wait listed in the fall?... i was just wondering what a wait list letter from them would say back then since all of our letters are saying it is b/c the class is full. Well good luck to everyone and try to remember the acceptance numbers he told us when we interviewed looked good! (sorry trying to be the optimist even though i'm going insane as well)

In answer to your question, flamingo05, I interviewed in December and was put on the waitlist then. My letter sounded nothing at all like everyone else has said. It just stated that the admissions committee reviewed my application and wanted to notify me that I had been placed on the alternate list. It said nothing about the standing of my application, whether good or bad. It makes me a little nervous, but then again I don't know if there is any method to all of this. I just wish I understood it all.

I guess we just have to have faith that if we are meant to go to school there this fall it will all work out, because worrying is sure not going to help. (Like everyone else I am just trying to be positive!!)

I'm starting to feel like they told us that to give an excuse. Anyways hopefully everything will work out, none of us really know what is going on. I have also heard that the interview order was ranked too, so could be good that you interviewed in Dec. I really have no clue! Oh well, sorry that I'm no help!

Hey Bflygrl, i wouldnt worry too much about the wording of the letter...if u do a search from last year's waitlist thread all kinds of people got in (from 'excellent rating' to 'good rating' to nothing even mentioned rating). I interviewed in feb and i think hinkley said there were only a handful of spots left...oh well. likewise, i have no useful information 👍 hopefully something will start moving though!

So I interviewed in the beggining of april, and got the email like 3 weeks later. But dont fret, at the interview they made it seem like a lot of people got in off hte wait list. like a lot.

I don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but Dr. Hinkley told me a few days ago that the alternate list will begin movement this weekend and most of the acceptances will occur between then and the second week of June. So, hopefully we will all hear something soon...

Just a question, BFlyGirl, don't know if he told you, but i'm assuming from the way it sounded that they haven't even began going down the list yet, correct? That's cool if they will begin calling on the weekend. I didn't think they would until a week day! As usual I have heard nothing, but best of luck to everyone... first one to get an acceptance better tell the rest of us!!!

Just to let you know guys I spoke to one of the admissions secretaries today during the med schools c/o 2005 graduation and here's what she told me:

- 2 ppl got taken off the alternate list on Friday 5/13

- probably at least 3 more ppl will be taken off this Monday

- the mjr of ppl who will be taken off the list will be taken off the list by the end of May (though I have friends in my class who were taken off in August!)

- if you interviewed late, even if you were rated highly they had no choice but to put you on the alternate list but that these would be among the first ppl to be called up
