I keep reading that Umich is a very competitive program, but does anyone have any further info? For those who received interviews, does it seem that they are using a 230 step1 cut off?

Probably about right.

The place is also a research powerhouse, so I think you'll need some of that to make them really interested.

i interviewed at ann arbor.... from what it seems a lot of the housestaff were from more midwest locales so I don't think its as competitive as your coastal programs but its definitely a top tier program so I'm pretty sure they have some sort of filter whether its step or class rank or whatever... my stats were ok step > 240 and honors in medicine but i had next to no research so hopefully you can use that to gauge how you fit in competitive wise....
