Umm yeah. I just got a letter today that said I got an interview from Michigan. I honestly have not heard much about them. Are they a good clinical school? Has anyone interviewed there? Better yet, does anybody go there? What should I watch out for at the interview?

Thx in Advance.

I interviewed there. I liked Ann Arbor and the students were nice. It's a big program. They really stress their research programs. My impression was that you'll get an adequate clinical education. After being asked, they said that dental students wouldn't be as likely to have opportunities to do more difficult procedures. In fact, in their own words, they said that good general dentists know when to refer. So, we teach you to refer the more difficult cases to the specialists. A specific example would be root canals. They told us during our presentation that students wouldn't be allowed to do root canals on maxillary molars or similar types of cases.

For me, I wanted a little more in the clinical ed and less in the research, so I passed them up on Dec. 1.

it is a great school. even though rankings are nonexist for several years, when they were ranked it was liek #3 or#5 mainly becasue of research. so if you want to specialize, like i do, go to a research school liek harvard, michigan, UCSF, etc. laters

they actually told you this? that's a very candid response. most schools like that would have no problem straight up lying to prospective candidates about their clinical weaknesses.

i think i have newfound respect for UM

Yeah, I appreciated the candidness too--it's an important decision we have to make. But, I wouldn't say they were unique. Of all my interviews, I never felt that any was holding anything back. They don't have to. 9,000 plus applicants for 4,000+ spots puts things in their favor.
